What to Know

Critics Consensus

With a weaker ending, Unbreakable is not as a good as The Sixth Sense. However, it is a quietly suspenseful film that intrigues and engages, taking the audience through unpredictable twists and turns along the way.

Matthew Rozsa Salon.com "Unbreakable" is likely to stand the test of time as long as stories about superheroes - or heroes in general - are still sought by scared, suffering human beings. Rated: 4/4 Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian This compelling conundrum of a film marks the maturity of Sixth Sense director M Night Shyamalan as a distinctive, even remarkable filmmaker. Jan 2, 2019 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Interesting premise, but ultimately disappointing. Rated: 2/5 Dec 29, 2010 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Comic-book fan or not, Unbreakable is the closest to what reality would be if superheroes really existed. Rated: A+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Chris Ludovici The Spool ...Even though Unbreakable's superhero side is shaky, Shyamalan's fourth film is ultimately a success—as best seen in the strength of the Dunn family story and a genuinely exciting climactic fight. Feb 14, 2023 Full Review Fico Cangiano CineXpress Podcast Ahead of its time, Unbreakable remains one of the best superhero films of all time. A masterful deconstruction and exploration of the popular comic book genre. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 22, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This is is one of my favorite M. Night Shyamalan movies. I thought the concept was very cool. A seemingly normal guy takes a trip on a train when the unexpected happens the train details leaving everyone on board dead. Except one, who is untouched. David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is found by a comic collector Mr. Glass. Who has a rare genetic condition leaving him very brittle. The opposite of David. He seeks out David to let him know that he is what comic book write about... I would definitely recommend seeing this one. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Joshua S This movie is awesome. Great story, great directing, great writing, great casting, great acting, and awesome scenes. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson are both great. This has to be one of Samuel’s best villains. Please watch it, it’s a must-see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review NiB Y Defintly not a movie for everybody, it is VERY slow-burn; but the ending, script, acting and atmosphere are absolutly fantastic. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review a t Great premise. (It's a superhero origin story.) Good acting. Excruciatingly slow! I don't mind a slow burn, but this was tortuously slow! If I could have speed it up 2 fold, it still would have been tortuously slow! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review leslie dean b This is a very underrated movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review Nick L Unbreakable is a film that I think will appeal more to the Superhero fans than the average movie goer. I personally loved it (yes I'm a massive superhero fan ) and out of all the movies Shyamalan has made I rate this one his best. OK don't expect costumes, outrageous superpowers and over the top punch ups but a fair paced story origin story. This is not the greatest film ever but RT''s score of 70% was a a bit low in my opinion. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
