After spending time in a psychiatric facility, young Anna (Emily Browning) finds significant changes in store at home. Her widowed father (David Strathairn) is now engaged to her mother's former nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). One night, the ghost of Anna's mother appears, screaming for revenge and accusing Rachel of murder. Anna and her sister, Alex (Arielle Kebbel), start to investigate, but they may be unprepared for the lethal battle of wills that ensues.

15 years later This was just okay yet for the longest time I didn't know it was another Japanese horror remake A terrific cast composed of Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel, Elizabeth Banks, and David Strathairn A young teenage girl Anna can't remember an incident years ago and her mother sadly died being sick She ended up leaving her sister Alex alone with her father He found a new girlfriend Rachel and she's now adjusting to the change coming back home But Alex and Anna start to suspect something fishy about Rachel, she has no record of her employment history and her intentions might be less than genuine Both sisters have to find out the truth all the while Anna is seeing ghostly apparitions There is strong acting and some steady direction by Charles & Thomas Guard I won't lie I did get a few scares in the process; they have great use of the dark lighting and shadowy corners Banks plays the condescending girlfriend pretty well; she's beautiful but also unpredictable The twist is actually clever and unexpected Although when you really think about how everything transpires the supernatural elements aren't really needed and make no sense in the grand scheme of things It's generic at best but still watchable
