What to Know

Critics Consensus

An uneven collection of found-footage horror films, V/H/S has some inventive scares but its execution is hit-and-miss.

London Evening Standard A nauseating experience on every level. Rated: 2/5 Jan 18, 2013 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Smart, scary stuff. Rated: 4/5 Jan 17, 2013 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Several of the shorts build ingeniously, and their brevity solves the serial problem of found footage, which is how to maintain interest and plausibility in shaky-cam antics for a whole feature. Rated: 3/5 Jan 17, 2013 Full Review Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast V/H/S is hindered by the onslaught of unlikable, misogynistic characters in nearly every one of its segments, but it succeeds due to creative premises and the effective use of the found footage technique to achieve shocking, intense, and scary moments. Rated: 4/5 Oct 25, 2023 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh A diverse blend of horrors that all have an organic connection to one another to justify the found-footage format. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review For all its tension and shock value, the experience is uneven. Rated: 2/4 Sep 25, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Dan R 2012's 'V/H/S' is the film which started off the very underated and underground franchise of the same name. SYNOPSIS: 'When a group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.' There's no big budget here but you'd not expect there to be when this is a film about found footage VHS tapes. What 'V/H/S' does really well is to have individual segments/stories that are genuinely terrifying and induce a real sense of dread and unease. Bloody isn't half of the matter! The twisted logic of the over-arching story is also brilliantly done and connects everything together nicely. A real horror gem. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Amanda Y I really didn't like this movie at all as much as i really like watching horror movies and wanted to watch this found footage movie but turns out that this is just terrible i get confused sometimes during watching this because i don't know if it is them watching the VHS or actually real not watching and that someone is trying to kill the characters. Also the characters were really unlikeable but one thing is it's cool to see Tyler from the director of scream 5 and 6 plus ready or not. Overall i didn't like this movie and it was too confusing and kind of long I wanted to return this to the library after watching a little bit its terrible. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Tyler c I think this is actually the worst shot movie of all time. I cannot comprehend how anyone can recommend this movie or even enjoys it. About 45 minutes into the movie I checked my timestamp and was astonished that I wasn't twice as long into the movie. This movie drags on for ever so much useless "footage". As for it being a horror film its not scary at all just goofy and gross. The story is all over the place with very little character development. In fact almost every single character Is just awful and unlikable. I wish on everything that I had this two hours of my life back, If I had paid for this movie I could never forgive myself. 0/10 stars Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Kaden F I was gonna give it a 2 star, but I had to raise it to 3 bc of how funny it was, some creepy moments tho, but this was a raunchy comedy Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review Calvin T It was good....must see 👀 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Timothy P This is one of those found footage movies where the people are so annoying you wish the murders weren't fake.
