What to Know

Critics Consensus

Sensitive, well-acted, and solidly directed, Words on Bathroom Walls is an admirable addition to a genre that too rarely does justice to its worthy themes.

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC Radio (Australia) Words on Bathroom Walls is a moving, well-intentioned film with its heart in the right place that makes a noble effort to tackle a subject that has in the past been so broadly badly handled. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 18, 2020 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian This is a lively and sensitively acted YA drama about a teenager with schizophrenia... but it feels like a semi-copout. Rated: 3/5 Nov 6, 2020 Full Review G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle Together, these two bright stars-to-be carry "Words on Bathroom Walls" across the finish line. Rated: 3/4 Nov 5, 2020 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Words on Bathroom Walls barely scratches the surface of what schizophrenia looks and feels like, but it's still an enjoyable rom-com with charismatic leads. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2023 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine Words on Bathroom Walls deftly blends genres to explore mental illness in young people. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 6/10 Jul 3, 2023 Full Review Jessica Scott Film Cred Words on Bathroom Walls is far from perfect, but — due in large part to its phenomenal cast — it’s an enjoyable teen dramedy that takes a positive step forward in onscreen mental health representation. Vanessa I really enjoyed the movie. It was sweet, a bit offbeat, funny and still pulled on our heart strings. Most people don’t have an understanding of what it means to suffer with mental health. This gives a face to a very painful struggle. The acting was compelling, I enjoyed the characters and story line and laughed and cried. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/20 Full Review Phyllis Everyone needs to see this to understand this form of mental health. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/20 Full Review Jesse There were a lot of important details from the book that were either different from the original story or left out completely that were very relevant to Adams story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/20 Full Review Robin It’s a sweet boy meets girl story but also a story about mental illness and it’s effects on the family, the community and on the individual. I really learned something while being entertained. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/10/20 Full Review Georgia P wonderful acting, story line, empathetic for tormented persons!! Great priestly help. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/10/20 Full Review Laura Couldn’t get in the theatre. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/10/20 Full Review Read all reviews
