Ben Travers indieWire Despite its familiar construction, "Gomorrah" is significantly more frightening than others in its genre because of the history behind it. Rated: A- Sep 25, 2020 Full Review Tim Grierson TheWrap In this series, the mob is as elemental and unavoidable as death, whose cruel finality visits these people with grisly regularity. The characters can't shake their environment -- and once "Gomorrah" puts its hooks into you, you'll feel the same way. Aug 26, 2016 Full Review Gail Pennington St. Louis Post-Dispatch For a niche audience, though, Gomorrah will be a favorite. Rated: 3/4 Aug 25, 2016 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media Routine gangster drama has gun violence, sex, drugs. Rated: 3/5 Feb 18, 2021 Full Review Robert Yaniz, Jr. We Got This Covered Gomorrah demonstrates that the world of organized crime is as narratively rich as ever, bringing a decidedly modern spin to the genre that is distinctive from beloved predecessors like The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire. Rated: 4/5 Sep 25, 2020 Full Review Ken Tucker Yahoo! TV Gomorrah is at its finest when it's exploring the petty grudges and festering resentments that its characters on all levels -- from highly positioned gangsters to low-level bag-men -- nurture with grim unhappiness. Riccardo D Absolute masterpiece of Crime television. Represents in a realistic and crude way the reality of those years in Naples, Italy. While that has now partially changed and the power struggle shown in the series belongs to the 90s and 00s, facts depicted are inspired by real ones. Characters are well-developed and believable and while they do push the viewer to wanting more they never fall in the stereotype that celebrates criminals. They are always shown for what they are. Do not skip this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Maajed W It's gritty, in your face. Visceral and a masterpiece of intrigue. Problem is, everything else I start to watch after watching this looks lackluster- it's so gripping. Almost like the last frontier of crime serials. I have finished season 3. Sadly, just two more seasons to go. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Olivia Y THE best series ever! Faultless………. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I have never been blown away by a serieEnglish, was with this. Finished the whole 1st season in 3 days and the whole show (5 seasons plus 1 spinoff movie) in 2 weeks. This show portrays the true, dark and gritty side of Italy that no one talks about. I could go on about this show but I'll keep it brief. This show is based on real account stories of the Camorra; a mafia type organization based in Naples Italy who ultimately control the drug trade across Europe. What most people don't know, is that the Camorra is even more powerful and arguably more ruthless than the La Cosa Nostra Mafia that has always been the center of spotlight among Hollywood productions. While I have always loved the famous genre of American-Italian Mafia projects (Sopranos, Goodfellas, Boardwalk Empire, The Godfather, etc.) these developments have usually had a sense of glamorizing the life of organized crime whereas this show illustrates the real and brutal aspect of living such a life. The finale of this season left me with goosebumbs. This show needs to be marketed way more. I thought the Sopranos was the best, then I saw this. I can't even look at other shows the same because this raised the standard so much for me. Not one bad episode or one bad season. It has everything you would want in a crime drama and more. I highly encourage that you watch this in its native Italian (Napolitano) language with the subtitles, NOT in english, to make it feel even more authentic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Can only say good things about this series. Doesn't make me want to binge watch as one episode a night is pretty satiating - but in a good way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member As a fan of organized crime dramas, I found this show in my humble opinion to be the greatest o.c. drama of all time. The authenticity of the show based on a true story by author/investigative journalist Roberto Saviano was really brought to life by the gritty portrayal of Naple's native Camorra. This is an unflinching look at life as a criminal in one of Italy's most notorious crime syndicates. This is not a romanticized take on life in the mafia as with The Godfather. This is a raw, unfiltered look at the narcotics trade and the price paid in blood to maintain control of the turf needed to sell drugs. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
