Following the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad, Beef, does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close -- especially his only daughter, Judy, whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall. Rounding out the family are Judy's older brother, Wolf, and his fiancé, Honeybee, her middle brother, Ham, and 10-year-old-going-on-50 little brother, Moon. While their mother is not in the picture, Judy seeks guidance from her new boss, Alyson, and her imaginary friend, Alanis Morissette, who appears to her in the northern lights. Read More Read Less

JT J 'The Great North' is one of the greatest animated family t.v. shows on-air today! With great writing, leadership and acting, TGN takes a blended family from Alaska, surrounds them with a loving & weird town, and allows their world to grow by one crazy story at a time. Including Queer, Native, and other underrepresented people makes this show just feel that much more relatable. (Like real-life always should be.) Awesome show! If you go into it comparing it to something like Family Guy, American Dad, Simpson's or even Bob's burgers your likely to be disappointed as it's much more understated than that (but It is closest to Bob's burgers if you had to compare). All the main cast are grounded individuals and the family dynamic is very wholesome. Everyone pretty much has themselves figured out. In that vein, it feels more like a TV sitcom such as That 70s show or big bang theory. No massive conflict or madcap adventure every episode... Only with high quality writing, nuanced characters, decent animation and no awful laugh track. The comedy is understated and comes mostly for the characters themselves, if your not paying attention you will miss them. It very much grows on you and it is a very pleasant show. It might be that I'm now in my 30s but it's an animation I would have found so boring in my teens, yet this and Bob's burgers are my favorites.
