Emmy-nominated actor Rob Lowe stars as a famous actor, Dean Sanderson, who comes to a crossroads when his long-running hit TV series -- in which he starred as a lawyer -- is canceled. Despite the lack of a formal education, real-life experience in the courtroom or a license and bar certification, Dean decides to move back to his hometown and join his family's real-life law firm alongside his attorney brother, Stewart (played by acclaimed actor and director Fred Savage). While Dean and Stewart initially don't see eye-to-eye, they end up becoming a formidable team in the courtroom. Read More Read Less

Molly Eichel AV Club As much as The Grinder is mocking shows like, well, The Grinder, there is still this underlying love for the genre, and that love is the source of some of the best parodies. Rated: B+ Sep 30, 2015 Full Review Mark Peikert TheWrap Lowe and his continued dissection of middle-aged Adonis narcissism may be the main draws for the series, but Savage and Ellis help matters immeasurably by serving up a tasty variation on sitcom marriage. Sep 29, 2015 Full Review Brian Moylan Guardian It's not just good, it's pretty damn great. Sep 29, 2015 Full Review Randy Dankievitch TV Over Mind Once (and if) The Grinder finds a direction, it has the potential to be a great show. Mar 11, 2020 Full Review Pilot Viruet Flavorwire Fox's The Grinder is funny. This is truly a simplistic place to begin a review, but it's not exactly the most complicated sitcom out there - and anyway, "funny" isn't a word I'd use to describe most recent comedy pilots. Jun 8, 2016 Full Review Michael Slezak TV Line Dean Sanderson, is the living embodiment of the "I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on TV" joke. And while that's terrible news for his licensed attorney brother Stewart, it's one of myriad amusements to be found in Fox's new comedy The Grinder. Oct 30, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews

matthew c This was an excellent series, ridiculously funny and perfectly cast. I am absolutely shocked to see it was never picked up for another season, I think it's more worthy than the majority of "television" comedy these days. A real mid-latter career highlight for both Lowe and Savage, and an incredible pairing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most unique shows out in the last decade! Fred Savage and Rob Lowe had fantastic chemistry as brothers with opposite personalities. I'm still upset it was cancelled! Best comedy since Arrested Development! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Why was this canceled? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I started watching this on Netflix recently and it is surprisingly funny. It's impossible not to laugh at the witty rhetoric between not only Rob Lowe and Fred Savage, but also Fred Savage and his on-screen wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis. It's a light, fun show. Really hope Netflix picks it up for a second season! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Should not have been cancelled. Rob Lowe is a delight. I couldn't stop watching the episodes. Sometimes the material got a little tired and gags got repetitive, but the cast and premise were spot on. I think that a second season could be even better.
