On Euphoria, Maude Apatow’s character Lexi Howard has made it clear that she will pull out all the stops to make her creative vision come to life, as wonderfully evidenced by her multi-million dollar school play — and it looks like the actor isn’t far behind either.

During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Maude revealed that, just like Lexi, she will always go the extra mile to put on a good show. Case in point: pulling out her own teeth to create the perfect costume.

Speaking to Meyers, Maude revealed that the character of Lexi is actually “loosely based on me as a theater child” before sharing the equal parts gruesome and heartwarming anecdote.

“I started [acting in theater] when I was really young. I remember I always really went for it, too. I did a Gold Rush day and I wanted to look like a miner so I ripped out my tooth to look more like…” Maude gleefully recounted before Meyers cut her off to inquire about the tooth. “It was not a loose tooth at all. It was not ready to go and I just ripped it out… I think I was nine. But I was dedicated!”

Seeing that Maude‘s parents, director Judd Apatow and actor Leslie Mann, are both in the entertainment industry, one would assume the pair would admire their child’s dedication to the craft from an early age. But, on the contrary, they were taken aback by Maude’s impulse decision. (And, I mean, who can blame them?)

“I think my dad was like, ‘What is wrong with her? Oh, no. We raised a monster,’” Maude said amid laughs. “It just got worse as I got older. I just became a tyrant."
