Everyone, stop what you're doing — Zac Efron wants to make a High School Musical 4. This is not a drill!

While promoting his new film Firestarter, a reboot of the 1984 Stephen King adaptation, Zac told E! News that he would “of course” be interested in a HSM reboot. “Seriously, having the opportunity in any form to go back and work with that team would be so amazing," said Zac.

Since the first movie hit the Disney Channel back in 2006, Zac has become known around the world for his famed portrayal of basketball-slash-theater-star Troy Bolton in the High School Musical trilogy — and we literally mean around the world. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Zac revealed that while he was on a crocodile catching excursion with a tribe in Papua New Guinea, the tribesmen recognized him from the DCOM and asked him to FaceTime their cousins and wives.

“They knew who I was the whole time and didn't say anything about it! It was pretty wild, and then I realized, 'Wow, OK. I've made it everywhere,'” Zac joked.

Clearly, HSM fans around the globe would love to see Zac return to East High and reprise his role as Troy Bolton. The entire original High School Musical cast is well overdue for an IRL reunion, anyway — back in 2016, Zac sent in a taped message for fans during the movie's 10th anniversary special telecast, and wasn't present during the cast's pandemic-lockdown Zoom reunion in 2020. But according to Zac, his head is still very much in the game, and he'd love to be a Wildcat again.

“My heart's still there,” he told E! News. "That would be incredible. I hope it happens."

And so do we! BRB, calling up Disney right now.
