The TODAY team got a surprise gift ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On July 11, Sheinelle Jones revealed on the TODAY plaza that she and her fellow co-anchors were getting Team USA leotards. This comes a day after the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team leotards were exclusively revealed on the show.
"We revealed a first look at the U.S. women's gymnastics team's leotards, the sparkling uniforms decked out in Swarovski crystals really caught our eye," she said.
Sheinelle then revealed that TODAY's Savannah Guthrie came up with the idea that Hoda Kotb "needed one of her own, being the team mom."
"You did not!" Hoda said while laughing as the leotards for her, Savannah, Sheinelle, Craig Melvin and Al Roker were brought out on the plaza.
This comes after Hoda did an exclusive interview on July 1 with the U.S. women’s gymnastics team headed to the Paris Olympics, when Simone Biles referred to Hoda as the “gymnastics Olympic mother.”
Sheinelle shared on TODAY July 11 that Hoda got an "extra special" leotard.
Hoda started laughing as she held up her blue and white leotard that appeared to be decorated with crystals.
However, she wasn't the only one who broke a smile over the garments. The TODAY anchors also got a hoot out of the leotards that Al and Craig were given.
"You got man-tards," Savannah said while looking at them.
"Is that what they're called?" Craig asked.
"No they're called — remember we said leos yesterday," Sheinelle added, and Savannah agreed.
"You got a man leo," Savannah said with a smile.
On July 10, the leotards that the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team will be wearing at the Summer Games were exclusively revealed on TODAY.
The patriotic uniforms are made by GK Elite, and they feature more than 47,000 Swarovski crystals in total, plus pearls as homage to the City of Light. When Biles first laid eyes on her uniform alongside her teammates Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, she said they were "beautiful."
“The collection draws inspiration from classic American patriotism and old Hollywood glamour while blending sophisticated Parisian high fashion and sparkling light to pay homage to the host city,” GK Elite said in a statement.
