Alec Baldwin received the support of his family after his involuntary manslaughter case was dismissed this week in court.
The judge who presided over the trial dismissed the case on Friday, July 12, finding that prosecutors suppressed evidence that may have been linked to the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.”
Following the dismissal of the case, Alec Baldwin’s brothers shared their public support for him on social media.
Daniel Baldwin posted a video on Instagram and explained that he and his wife, D’Asia Bellamy, were now unpacking the bags they had prepared for their travel to Santa Fe in support of his brother's trial, which has now been dismissed.
“The judge saw through all the the nonsense and for some legal reasons, and... so Alec has been totally exonerated and the case is done,” Daniel Baldwin said in the clip. “But I wanted to take the time to say thank you so much. I want to reach out to all those people who supported my brother, who have written so many lovely messages to me, and congratulations today for Alec.”
He added, “I just wanted to say thank you for all the love and the friendship. I really appreciate you and God bless you all.”
While William Baldwin didn’t share a post of his own following the case’s dismissal, he reshared several articles on Instagram and the social media site X about the news.
Stephen Baldwin, who is father to daughter Hailey Bieber, shared a post, which is now restricted on Instagram, reacting to the news.
“Dismissed with Extreme Prejudice — nothing can stop what has been set in motion,” he wrote in the caption. “Hallelujah. God is good. love you bro. That’s a rap !!!”
Alec Baldwin was facing up to 18 months in prison if jurors on the case unanimously agreed that he had committed the felony.
In October 2021 while rehearsing a scene on set, a prop revolver held by Baldwin went off, killing Hutchins and wounding Joel Souza, the movie’s director. Alec Baldwin pleaded not guilty, claiming that he was unaware the revolver contained a live round and that the prop discharged accidentally after he was instructed to point it toward Hutchins.
In April, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on “Rust,” was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 18 months in a Santa Fe prison after she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March.
On July 13, Alec Baldwin broke his silence after the case's dismissal and posted a brief statement on Instagram to share his gratitude for the support he received.
“There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now,” he wrote. “To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”
The 66-year-old actor has three younger brothers: Daniel, 63, William, 61, Stephen, 58. The actor also has two sisters: Elizabeth Keuchler, 68, and Jane Sasso, 59.
All of the Baldwin brothers pursued a career in acting, with Alec Baldwin best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” and film roles including “Beetlejuice” and “It's Complicated.”
Daniel Baldwin has acted across movies and television, including stints on “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Cold Case,” while William Baldwin appeared in movies including “Sliver” and “Backdraft,” and portrayed Dr. William van der Woodsen on “Gossip Girl.”
The youngest Baldwin, Stephen, starred in “The Usual Suspects” and “Bio-Dome,” and most recently appeared on "Nova Vita” in 2021.
