Eagle-eye fans spot multiple rats in ‘Bachelorette’ mansion. Yes, really

Jenn Tran really is having a "rat girl summer," huh?

It looks like "Bachelorette" Jenn Tran and her 25 suitors aren't the only ones who've taken up residence in the show's new mansion: Rats have as well.

The 21st season of “The Bachelorette” is the first to be filmed at at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, California, rather than the home in Agoura Hills, California where seasons traditionally unfold.

The mansion certainly had surprises, beyond its new interiors. Fans spotted two rodents scurrying across a room during Jenn's first conversation with Sam Nejad.

As Jenn and Sam spoke, hand in hand, the blurry impression of two mice or rats sprinted past. The moment comes right after Sam characterizes himself as a "love virgin," because he's "never been inlove."

Naturally, reactions to Jenn's "rat girl 'Bachelorette'" moment abounded online.

Some viewers were in disbelief. "Sorry but do two rats run across the background," writer and podcaster Ali Segel posted on X.

Others saw the rats and drew conclusions about the season's future. "Noticed the rats run by immediately and my husband said it was 'foreshadowing,'" one X user wrote.

On X, another person joked of the moment and said, "That’s called atmosphere."

"Bachelorette" producers made light of the moment in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

"You’ll notice there were two of them. Everyone deserves to find love!”

TODAY.com has reached out to ABC and "The Bachelorette" for comment.

The "Bachelorette" premiere was unprecedented in other ways. Tran was the show's first Asian American lead. She also broke tradition by only kissing one man — Sam McKinney, the recipient of her first impression rose — on the first evening in the house.

Tran told Decider that a first kiss “means a lot” to her.

“It takes a lot for me to be affectionate with somebody and to get to that level. So I knew in the back of my head that I wasn’t going to kiss anybody unless I really felt that spark and felt that connection and felt that the relationship could go to that level that night,” she said.

Why Sam, out of all 25 men? She told USA TODAY that she knew that they had an "undeniable connection."

“I was just thinking back to who was making me feel the most comfortable, whose conversation was the easiest — and who did I feel like I connected with the most on night one?” she said. “I just kept thinking back to Sam at that point. I was like, ‘If I keep thinking back to this guy, then I’m going to give him the rose because I think there’s potential there.’”
