American Home Shield

We submitted a claim on Friday, 28 June 2024 with American Home Shield(AHS) Our Air Conditioner circuit breaker is tripping and requires multiple resets. We were assigned SMART CHOICE HEATING & COOLING, INC. The technician’s showed up at noon on Monday, July 1st and they did not fix our air conditioner. According to the techs: Recommend replacing condenser fan motor and adding compressor kick start to help pro long system and prevent mid summer break downs. They claimed that “American Home Shield will not pay for a repair until the motor freezes up.” So why did we pay AHS $120 to get nothing accomplished? This is Tucson, Arizona during the summer. Is American Home Shield going to pay for a hotel to stay in when our compressor motor seizes with outside air temperatures of 110 degrees? We want our $120 refunded and our air conditioner fixed!

Price goes up and up every year

Price goes up and up every year. The service fee goes up every year and if you need to use the service there are conveniently things not included our AC repair still cost up $750 plus the $125 fee from AHS. The process to cancel is PAINFUL and LONG. Very annoyed by this. Took me 30 minutes on the phone and several representatives that don't speak good English just to cancel.

Although the experience of filing a…

Although the experience of filing a claim with AHS is relatively easy, that is where the positive ends and the negative claim process begins. It took AHS 10 days to advise me that my pool pump was not covered due to a power surge that damaged the electrical drive motor beyond repair. How the contractor could determine that without looking at the circuit board is beyond me, but there is no real process to get an appeal by AHS and even if there were, it has already been nearly two weeks without filtration for the pool. Bottom line, AHS denied my claim which is typical of these insurance companies who look for any possible reason to deny a claim if it exceeds what you paid for the policy to start with. My advice, if you do go with AHS, realize that they are no different than the rest in the industry and be sure to read your contract coverage thoroughly which in my case I did, but be aware not all reasons for denial are listed.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Do not make a mistake and go with these people. They do nothing but steal your money, and when it comes to repairs they take a week and they charge you so many extra things that it is better to just have someone do it. RIPOFF!!!!!

Water heater

My water heater wasn't working and made service call. Electrician came out on July 22 and found that
i t was the fuse panel next to the water heater. He jiggled switch and got it to work but said it needed to to be fixed and it would be a simple job. I should call back and get the job changed to fuse panel, which he thought they could do. After calling American Home Shield I was told they would look into it. No call back. Called back and was told it would require another service call and another charge. Called to cancel contract and was shuffled
around to four different representatives and was finally told they would call back. Waited over four hours with no call back. Called back next day and after demanding a supervisor finally got someone to cancel. Asked for an email confirmation, but never received one. Called back and after 2 or 3 more reps finally got one to confirm cancellation and asked to receive email confirmation. Had to call back next day to finally get email. Only had contract for a few months, but if that is an example of their customer service I have no confidence in staying with them in case of future "covered repairs."

We have been AHS customers for over 20…

We have been AHS customers for over 20 plus years. On May 29th we filed a service request because our overhead microwave door fell completely off and was hanging by wires on our stove top. An Efficient tech was promptly sent out and stated a new door would not be effective because the Samsung door was very heavy, and the screws are made of plastic, and we would have the same problem within a year and was lucky our stovetop did not crack. It was recommended to get a new microwave. We have made numerous calls to AHS representatives and after speaking to several representatives, we were told a door was ordered and said we wanted a new door. This was FALSE and later told someone from AHS ordered the door!! After more calls to AHS, we were told we could ask for a cashout. It is August 5th and still have not received a cashout. The service is UNACCETPTABLE!!

Appliance or Plumbing?

On the morning of July 31st, my wife noticed water on the floor by the washing machine. I immediately submtted a service request to AHS (#358474528). The assigned appliance repair contracor called and scheduled me for later that day. Upon personal examination, I found there was a pin hole in the hot water tank line causing the water on the floor not the washing machine. I called & cancelled the assigned contractor and submitted a new service request (#358752998) for the water heater. A local plumber contractor came within hours and replaced the faulty water line and valve. The response time of these contractors was astounding and their professionalism stellar. My only question is for AHS, do I get a refund on the 1st service request because I cancelled it?

Included above are the dispatch numbers. Below is my contract number, as Betty requested.

Thanks Joe

NEVER AGAIN - DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!

I gave AHS one star because that is the lowest rating allowed. What a gimmick! It's employees are trained to respond or find in the negative.
We had a an electrical problem with a newly constructed home (< 2 years old). The dishwasher was wired to the same circuit as outlets and the breaker kept tripping. On page 2, #4 of its contract it states that "improper installation" is a covered breakdown. In its advertising it states that "hard wired electrical lines" and "wiring" are covered items and then goes on to specify 6 items that were exclusions. None of these apply to our circumstance.
Bottom line this is a SCAM of a business. My recommendation is that no one purchase this coverage and if it comes with the purchase of a home require the seller deduct the cash from the sales price and forego this coverage. It is worthless. Truly BUYER BEWARE!!! They don't act in good faith.

Put a ticket in to get microwave and refrigerator checked out. Paid for a microwave upgrade, since original one couldn’t be repaired. New microwave doesn’t fit correctly in the space. Refrigerator still hasn’t been repaired either and the company that was referred by AHS has closed ticket so now I’m stuck and not sure I want to put in another ticket or not. This is first time I haven’t been happy or dealing with a not completed repair/replacement.

5 minutes visit!!

Considering even the problem at the end had fixed, no device or appliance was replace. The technician was maybe 5 minutes and just used an alen tool and done. Is this a fair service paying 125$ for that?

Too bad I have to leave a star

Too bad I have to leave a star. Horrible experience with our dryer. It’s 23 years old, and the company that came out (3 times) almost caught our house on fire. After going round and round a million times with AHS, we were told an electrician has to come out to check our wiring. We were obviously told by the electrician everything was fine ( we’re all in 4 weeks now starting early 7/2024), a report was given back to AHS from the electrical company to the ineptness of the dryer company. We are now being told the dryer company has to come back out! They will not allow another company to come out regardless of our escalation or complaints with upper management. I’m a few hundred into this with deductibles and my monthly fee, so I’m hog tied at this point and feel they’re simply trying to drag it out until I cave and buy myself a new dryer. This has been the absolute worst experience and having two kids makes things very hard. I have a clothes line string up in my bedroom to dry as much as I can. I’m looking at least two to three more weeks of this until it’ll be resolved. We were told another week out for the dryer company to even come back out here, to which we want nothing to do with and do not want them in our house! AHS will have to wait on their so called report which takes another week, maybe more parts, who knows! I only know I do not want this Ukraine speaking man ( zero English) in my
House!

I have been a customer since January 2024 today is July 29, 2024 and l have requested my contact 14 times during this period only to be lied to numerous times by everyone at American Home Shield. So starting today l told them will not make another payment until my contract is received. And if it’s not received this week as l was told at 12:05pm Eastern Standard time l will be filing charges for felony theft against them and l will also file a Civil Law Suit. This company is horrendous for lying people please do research before signing up with them.

I honestly don't know which service…

I honestly don't know which service this survey is for, but the experience was the same. AHS is not easy to get a hold of, and the service providers both were okay at best. The refrigerator technician had to come back, and the ice maker is still not working great. The A/C provider flushed our secondary drain, but the primary was still clogged. He said he would get back to me about fixing or replacing the primary drain, but didn't follow up. The secondary backed up again and started leaking, I submitted another request through AHS for follow up over a week ago, but haven't heard from the service provider. Once the leak started happening again, out of desperation I cut the PVC of what I believed to be the primary drain.
Thankfully I was right, but the vendor didn't solve my problem, I did.

Make sure when a customer service rep…

Make sure when a customer service rep is setting up a service company for a non working item that they can let Home Shield custtomer know if the item they are requesting a repair on is covered by their contract with Home Shield before customer service rep sends a repair request to a repair company and charges the Home Shield cutomer the co pay of $100.00 for something that is not covered on their contract!

They replaced my dishwasher

They replaced my dishwasher. The new dishwasher was shipped to my home and put on my back porch. It sat there for several months. They couldn't find anyone that would install it. They finally told me that they couldn't get anyone to install and for me to get someone to install, and they would reimburse me so I did. In February of 2024 I submitted the bill to them. Since then I have submitted the invoice 3 times. I also submitted a copy of the cancelled check where I paid the invoice. It is now almost August of 2024, and they still haven't reimbursed me or let me know why. It doesn't appear that the warranty is worth much.

We reported our A/C was no cooling

We reported our A/C was no cooling. The contracted company made contact and the technician arrived a day early....which was wonderful since it was 86 degrees in the house. He found the issue, fixed it and our home began cooling down. Very thankful that the technician knew what to look for and his quick resolution.

Easy to make a claim online

It was easy to make a claim online. The repair contractor contacted me within a few hours. He was able to come the same day. The repair didn't fix the issue. He advised me it might not. Tried a second time, same result.
AHS paid me my claim amount for replacement. Deposited the money into my checking account in 2 business days. Very happy.

Been with AHS since 2013

Been with AHS since 2013, when I purchased my home. I have had to make NUMEROUS, service request for my HVAC unit. One time I had to pay for refrigerant due to it being low. Every other time just the service fee. This time though, I needed a new compressor in my unit, mind you I made a service request on 7/20/24( a Saturday, I know HVAC company was closed). Received a call that following Monday (7/22/24). Soonest they could get someone out was the following Monday(7/29/24). Also keep in mind it's July IN THE SOUTH, WE ARE BURNING ALIVE FROM THE HEAT. The tech informed me that he would need to submit his findings to the office so they could send it to AHS. No big deal. A few days later (7/31/24) I received a notification that there was a partial approval. Upon checking said notification, it stated that I owed HVAC comp $650. I called HVAC and AHS to get clarification as to why I owed anything at all (I had also upgraded my plan in April after the last service request of my unit not cooling). Come to find out, all the CSR are outsourced to overseas countries, who knew. Only one individual was willing to look into why I owed anything. He then sent my info back for review. When it came back, NOW I OWE $950! I escalated my concerns and got no where. The lady I spoke with, sounded like she was fighting her way out of a plastic bag. I am beyond angry with this latest experience. You would think that AHS would see on their end how many time I have made a service request for the EXACT SAME THING and make the decision on their own to just replace my unit all together. Seems like shelling out all this money to an HVAC company, they would say, " Hey, we wouldn't have to pay so much to have this unit fixed everytime something goes wrong with this unit if we just replace the unit". I guess that requires common sense on their part. If I added up the cost of every repair, I could have bought 2 units. AHS, DO BETTER OR GET OUT OF THE HOME WARRANTY BUSINESS. YOU CLEARLY SUCK AT IT. Oh yeah and today 8/10/24, and I STILL HAVE NO AC. HOW TF DO YOU SUPPOSE I'M KEEPING MY FAMILY COOL WITH ALL THIS HEAT!?!?!? THATS RIGHT YOU DON'T CARE!
