The Straw Hats are on their way to the Grand Line. After a successful first season, Netflix's One Piece live action series is back in production for Season 2.

The adaptation features Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Their chemistry was undeniable in the first season, and we're excited for these characters' relationships to grow as their pirate adventures continue.

The first season adapted most of the manga's East Blue Saga up to the Arlong Park arc. Which can only mean one thing: Loguetown arc is next! The Netflix series' finale teased Marine vice admiral Smoker, so we're anticipating Season 2 to pick up with this antagonist.

On Sept. 14, 2023, Netflix shared a video of One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda announcing Season 2's renewal. Remember, his heavy involvement in Season 1 was a huge reason why the adaptation was such a hit. In true One Piece fashion, the news was delivered through a Transponder Snail. "Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news," Oda said. "Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!"

Here's everything we know so far about Netflix's One Piece Season 2.

Netflix's One Piece latest news

On July 1, Netflix announced that production has started for One Piece Season 2. The streamer released a video of the Straw Hats reuniting in Cape Town as they begin filming. Are we the only ones who got emotional watching this?!

Netflix's One Piece Season 2 release date

The Going Merry isn't setting sail in 2024. On Feb. 1, Netflix shared its slate for this year and One Piece was not included. Besides, filming for Season 2 has not started, according to Deadline. In the video from Sept. 14, 2023 announcing the renewal, Oda said "it'll still take a while to get the scripts ready, so please be patient."

But we got some insight into the production schedule thanks to One Piece's producers. Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios — which produced Netflix's One Piece along with Shueisha — told Variety that they've "got the scripts ready." After the WGA strike ended, Matt Owens told Deadline, "We did start our Season 2 writers room for a little bit before the strike."

On Feb. 1, Deadline reported that One Piece has yet to start filming its second season. Given that the series also didn't appear in Netflix's 2024 preview, it's safe to say that 2025 is the earliest time One Piece would return.

Netflix's One Piece Season 2 cast

On June 25, Netflix shared a handful of new stars joining the cast. They include Daniel Lasker, who will star as Mr. 9; Camrus Johnson, who will star as Mr. 5; David Dastmalchian, who will star as Mr. 3; and Jazzara Jaslyn, who will star as Miss Valentine.

A day later, Netflix revealed even more actors who are starring in One Piece Season 2. Clive Russell is set to play Crocus, Werner Coetser is set to play Dorry, and Brendan Murray is set to play Brogy.

And on June 27, we met even more of the upcoming faces. Callum Kerr has been cast as Smoker, Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Rob Colletti as Wapol, and Ty Keogh (24 Hours To Live) as Dalton.

And based on the announcement on July 1 regarding the start of Season 2's production, we know that our five leads will all return. The new season features Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Additional cast members from Season 1 who are coming back in Season 2 include:

  • Ilia Isorelys Paulino as Alvida
  • Jeff Ward as Buggy
  • Michael Dorman as Gold Roger

What else to know about Netflix's One Piece Season 2

Some One Piece fans have been calling for Jamie Lee Curtis to be cast as Dr. Kureha in the live-action adaptation. Dr. Kureha is a key figure in the Drum Island Arc: She is the adoptive mother of Tony Tony Chopper, the doctor who joins the Straw Hat. On Sept. 22, 2023, Curtis made a post on Instagram expressing her interest in playing the character. "ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in @onepiecenetflix," she wrote.

Co-showrunner Owens responded to the post. "Mommy dearest, that's why we sent you that figure!" He wrote. "No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let's talk!"
