We’re seeing a trend at Shopify: Entrepreneurs are single-handedly revitalizing America’s small towns. The narrative for the last decade has been the slow death of small towns - brain drain, struggling businesses etc. This isn’t the case. There are many towns across America that are thriving BECAUSE of entrepreneurs. Better yet: the data shows that small businesses run by entrepreneurs are better for the community. Today, 48% of Americans favor small-town living instead of living in cities. This is up 9% since 2018. You no longer need to live in a big city with a huge market to make your business thrive - all you need is a computer and wifi, and the world is literally your oyster. And business is booming outside of cities. Shopify stores are now launching at a 20% faster rate outside of cities. Shopify is making it possible not just for big brands to reach customers around the world - but for the everyday person in a small town to start a business. A business that can revitalize an entire community. These small businesses are not just important for people to realize their dreams of being an entrepreneur, they are extremely good for the local economy. 48% of the revenue from a small business goes directly back into the community; unlike chains, where a meager 13.8% goes back. More money back into the community means more to spend on other local businesses and within the community. Small businesses create a virtuous cycle of economic prosperity. This trend of small businesses turning small towns into thriving communities is something we’ve stumbled upon speaking with entrepreneurs across the country. There are thousands of these stories. The next big thing is small business in America. And they are powered by Shopify. More on this 👇 https://lnkd.in/eFxH-iFC
