Olympic athletes pour everything into training for the Games, routinely pushing their physical and mental bounds to the limit—and beyond. But getting into shape for what comes after the closing ceremony can be equally crucial. Athletes often face anxiety, depression or other mental health issues after the high-stakes competition wraps up. Here’s what experts and former athletes have to say about dealing with post-Olympics mental health struggles: https://lnkd.in/dDR2wtie

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are coming to an end this weekend. For today’s #BookLoversDay, we have put together a special #BooksInspired post highlighting selected titles from across our portfolio that reflect on the impact of the Games. Our Palgrave Macmillan title ‘Planning the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games’ is the first volume to provide a comprehensive account of mega-event planning for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It offers a useful summary of the themes and debates relating to urban planning for the Paris Olympics, drawing on a very rich collection of original data from surveys conducted with Olympic Games stakeholders. The authors address all aspects of the bidding process, the organisation of the Games and the construction of the social legacy of the Games, spanning the breadth of key topics in mega-event research, from sustainability & urban regeneration to gender & disability. The book is available here: https://lnkd.in/eG3a-BZP ‘Olympic Games and Global Cities’ offers a comprehensive overview of current debates on the influence of the Olympic Games on cities, urban policies and the governance of global cities. Historically, Western cities such as Paris, London, and later Los Angeles, have been the primary hosts of the summer Games. However, the link that existed between the world metropolises of the last century and the Games has deeply changed. Growing concerns about the Games' costs and environmental impact have prompted a shift in the expectations of candidate cities and the IOC. This evolution favours more modest bids, and a resurgence of global cities and historical Olympic host cities within the Olympic landscape. This Palgrave Macmillan title brings together interdisciplinary contributions from top international researchers. Learn more about this title: https://lnkd.in/edj9uJ6G Sport is often characterised as a male domain and a man’s world. The Palgrave Macmillan title 'Histories of Women’s Work in Global Sport' challenges this assumption and provides a new perspective on sports history. It’s focused on gender relations in the history of sports organisations worldwide. Women were often only shown as spectators or athletes while they also served roles in sports administration, governance, and diplomacy. Throughout history, they have influenced sports in many different, often overlooked ways, starting with their role as swim teachers in 19th-century England. The title demonstrates how gender initiatives have developed in European sporting institutions and international sport federations. Because after all, sport has never been a man´s world.
