It’s been a week since we used Toggl Track to time how long it took the metal horse to gallup down the Seine during the #Paris2024 Opening Ceremony 👀 #ParisOlympics #Olympics2024

🌟 Calendar events are now supported in Toggl's Timer! This is for all of you time management nerds out there. I use Toggl on a daily basis, tracking hours spent on client or personal work. I barely check my calendar (a bad habit, I know 🤦♂️ ) You can imagine how excited I was this morning when I found out I could integrate my calendar events directly into Toggl! In the screenshot you can see a glance of my typical week - tracked tasks are the blue/purple/green entries with the new addition of my calendar events in cyan. I think the UI works really well. It doesn't feel crammed even with the additional info on the page.

"Time forecasting is a skill you won't know you need until you need it." Preach it, Raegan Hedley! 👏

    Freelance Content Writer and Copywriter

Here are five things I've learned in my first six months of being a freelance writer: 5. Don't become a freelancer unless you are willing to cage fight your greatest weakness and fears. Not just once, but over and over again until you win. It sounds kind of scary at first, but when I was going through a major growth push a few months ago, two entrepreneurs I know told me this in two separate conversations (shout out Julia Rose Hawthornthwaite and Nicolas Bueno) and I found it really comforting. 4. Writing is just one small part of what a writer does. Writing is: 40% actually typing words into a document 30% editing and taking feedback (yeah...surprise!) 15% research 10% asking good questions 5% telling the client what you need 3. Knowing and being grounded in my values has helped me TREMENDOUSLY in the moments I have felt unsure (honesty and integrity are two that I come back to a lot). 2. Time forecasting is a skill you won't know you need until you need it. Start time tracking sooner than you want to (Toggl has a great free version). 1. Confidence comes with competence. Fake it till you make it is terrible advice because it does nothing to create real, genuine confidence. When I feel incompetent, I've learned that it's my brain's way of telling me I need more information!!! I need to ask a question, ask for advice, pay for help, take a course, read a book, get feedback/clarification or prepare more. p.s. I officially registered my business last week! 🎉 My freelancing "experiment" is now officially my job in the eyes of the government. Yee haw.

📰 Toggl Times — what we're reading this week 👇 🤸 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 = 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗸. How many of us watched Simone Biles smash records during work hours this week? You’re not alone. In the U.S., 12.3 million people plan to watch the Olympic Games at work without their boss’s permission. It’ll result in nearly $2.6 billion in lost productivity, but some experts say companies should cut their employees some slack. More here 👉 https://lnkd.in/epug_h7S 🤓 𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀. The New York Times conducted an experiment with 7,000 readers to see if they could focus on a painting for 10 minutes. Only 25% of them succeeded. See the experiment results (and test your own focus) 👉 https://lnkd.in/eW_KGS_B 💀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴... 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗰? More than one in three Gen Z applicants has faced hiring bias, a new survey has found. Applicants believe age, ethnicity, gender, weight and even hair colour played a role in hiring decisions. Commentators say it highlights the problems with traditional hiring practices which are ‘riddled with opportunities’ to discriminate against candidates 👉 https://lnkd.in/gV4JdtbM As always, drop your interesting reads for the week in the comments 👇
