Larger Than Life

Giving wise-guy Bill Murray an elephant for a foil sounds like the recipe for an antic romp. But Murray plays it low-key as a second-rate motivational speaker who inherits the pachyderm from his circus-clown dad, then hauls the beast cross-country to sell it to a zoo. An amiable road movie (albeit with a manic detour featuring Matthew McConaughey as a motormouthed trucker from hell), Larger Than Life was underwhelming as a multiplex experience. In your living room, where it needn’t live up to its title, it ambles along nicely. Don’t look for a lot of bull-in-the-china-shop belly laughs; do expect a warmer, wittier family film than largely dismissive reviews suggested. B
