Lena Dunham, Joe Biden, and George Saunders — as well as Jimmy Fallon, Arianna Huffington, Dr. Oz, Christina Aguilera, and dozens more — gathered together to mingle with and honor one another at Time’s 100 Gala, celebrating its annual “100 Most Influential People in the World” issue. The mix made for some interesting red carpet conversation, as entertainers mixed with politicians and publishing figures. Most attendees agreed it was an honor to be in the same room as so many other luminaries. Michael Kors, who showed up with Olivia Munn and sunglasses, gave out fashion tips. Barbara Walters talked up the latest biography she’s loving. That and other tidbits from the carpet below.

Mia Farrow was surprised to hear about the following for her candid and frequently updated Twitter account (she has more than 100,000 followers) — especially after her tweets during the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings. “I had no overall scheme. I was, as we all were, very caught up in the trauma and horror of this story … I just was trying to be helpful and remember, ‘Team Good People!’”

Michael Kors was happy to give out some quick fashion advice for women, especially when it came to breaking the clichéd rules of fashion. “I hate all that. I like white jeans in a snowstorm. The only thing is: Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.” Bonus: He never knows beforehand when Michelle Obama will step out in one of his looks.

What’s Barbara Walters reading? The veteran newscaster’s pick is My Beloved World, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s autobiography.

Bryan Cranston echoed the thoughts of many others on the carpet when noting the legacy of Pakistani activist and honoree Malala Yousafzai. “I know she’s not going to be here tonight, but that’s who needs to be on this list. This young girl is so courageous and heroic and astonishing to me.”

Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, was happy to just be there. “Any time where I’m on the same list as Pope Francis and Kim Jong-Un is very exciting for me. And also Chris Christie, he’s actually 22-40.”
