Benjamin Walker may be an 'American Psycho' in off-Broadway musical

After playing two blood-thirsty American presidents—on stage in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and on screen in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter—Benjamin Walker may now play an American Psycho.

The actor has reportedly been cast as serial killer Patrick Bateman in the upcoming U.S. premiere of the musical, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel and 2000 film of the same name. Written by Spring Awakening‘s Duncan Sheik and Big Love‘s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the dark show about excess and murder is set to open off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre in March 2015 and will be directed by Rupert Goold.

Walker would step into the role slayed by Christian Bale in the film. Dr. Who star Matt Smith took on the character last December at London’s Almeida Theatre, where Goold is the artistic director. EW‘s Jason Clark even suggested the casting of Walker when the transfer was announced last month.
