Last Man on Earth season 2 midseason premiere date set for March 6

The Last Man on Earth’s midseason finale left viewers buzzing over a cliff-hanger or two — and wondering when exactly the post-apocalyptic comedy would resume its action. The answer to that latter question is now known: March 6.

Fox will announce on Friday that it will return the show to its Sunday-at-9:30 ET/PT p.m. slot, which means that Bordertown — the new animated comedy that has been filling the slot during Last Man’s hiatus — will move earlier in the night to 7 p.m. beginning Mar. 6. (Last Man has been averaging 4.7 million viewers and a 2.1 rating in the 18-to-49 demo, while Bordertown has averaged 3.1 million viewers and a 2.1 among 18-to-49ers.)

The Dec. 13 episode of The Last Man on Earth, “Silent Night,” concluded with — SPOILER ALERT, SPOILER ALERT — Other Phil (Boris Kodjoe) flatlining after a failed appendectomy by not-a-doctor Gail (Mary Steenburgen), while Mike (Jason Sudeikis), the astronaut brother of Original Phil (Will Forte), hurtled his way to Earth in a less-than-sturdy escape pod. The spring premiere will resume the action where it left off, with Mike landing on our barely populated planet. “Mike thinks he is the last man on earth, but who knows what or whom he might encounter,” according to the network.

Forte dropped a few hints to EW last month about the final stretch of the season, which contains eight episodes. “The first episode back is unlike anything the viewers have seen, but it’s like the viewers have seen at the same time.” He also teased a scene in another upcoming episode, declaring, “it is going to be the dumbest-looking thing you have ever seen.”

One of the spring episodes contains a guest spot by The Room star Jacob Tremblay, who plays a young Phil.
