All the Way movie: Bryan Cranston's Lyndon Johnson features HBO adaptation

Trumbo star Bryan Cranston earned a Tony for his performance as President Lyndon Johnson in the Broadway play All the Way. Now he reprises his role for an HBO film, which you can preview in the new trailer above.

Directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay by Robert Schenkkan, All the Way dramatizes Johnson’s first year in office. It begins with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and segues into his involvement in the Civil Rights movement. Also featured are Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Jr., Melissa Leo as Lady Bird Johnson, Bradley Whitford as Hubert Humphrey, and Stephen Root as J. Edgar Hoover.

Cranston told EW the role is oddly similar to infamous Breaking Bad character, Walter White. “I think if you drew a Venn diagram, there would be a lot more in common than outside the circle. Very ambitious, very exceptional in what they do,” he said. “[They] can be selfish, can be self-righteous, very talented. There’s a tremendous amount that they have in common. It’s really just serendipitous to me that I was in the right place at the right time.”

All the Way debuts on HBO on Saturday, May 21, at 8 p.m. ET.
