Show tunes and Stars Hollow? Um, yes, please.

EW can exclusively reveal that Tony Award-winning Fun Home composer Jeanine Tesori has written the score for a musical that will be featured in the third Gilmore Girls movie (tentatively titled “Summer”) that will stream on Netflix later this year.

Gilmore exec producers Amy and Dan Sherman-Palladino have written the lyrics to the production that will be performed by Bunheads’ Sutton Foster, Smash’s Christian Borle, and Disaster!’s Kerry Butler. “It’s all my pals I’ve worshipped from Broadway. We’ve ripped them out here,” says Amy, who produced the 2013 Broadway production of Violet, which featured a Tesori score and earned Foster a Tony nomination.

According to Dan, audiences will see the performance, which is a musical history of Stars Hollow, in “enticing chunks,” though not in its entirety. “It’s one of those things we’ve wanted to do for a while — a small town reaching beyond its means and its talent to put on a musical,” he says.

Amy gets downright giddy talking about the musical. “It’s my most exciting thing!” she says. “We get in these demos and sheet music. The songs are ludicrous and insane. We’re listening and wondering, ‘Is the Tony on the piano while she’s doing this? Is she in a room surrounded by awards?’ She’s mad, mad, mad in the best possible way.”
