Power Rangers movie: Bryan Cranston teases Zordon character details

It’s been 23 years since Emmy-winner and Oscar-nominee Bryan Cranston’s voice appeared in the Power Rangers TV series, and now the actor is teasing details of the character he’s playing in the upcoming cinematic reboot.

After lending his voice (uncredited) to villains like Tinman and Snizard across two 1993 episodes of the Fox Kids program, it was announced earlier in June that Cranston’s role in the Power Rangers series had been upgraded to that of Zordon, a mentor to the teenage gang of do-gooders tasked with saving the world from an alien invasion led by the evil Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks).

“It’s motion capture, and it’s a lot of CGI-work,” the former Breaking Bad star told Entertainment Tonight of his part in the film, which is based on a character who appeared throughout the original TV series as a disembodied head communicating with the Rangers as a hologram.

Cranston further elaborated on the character’s backstory: “The tenant of that storyline is that this a real person who is trapped in this etherworld and it becomes this in-the-wall so to speak of [the command center],” he revealed. “He still has a heart and mind, but an agenda that he’s got to get these five Power Rangers to defend the earth or else everyone they know will be killed.”

In addition to Banks and Cranston in supporting parts, Power Rangers stars singer Becky G, Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, and Naomi Scott as the central heroes, while Project Almanac‘s Dean Israelite is directing.
