Clint Eastwood on Trump's racist comments: Just f‑‑‑ing get over it

Clint Eastwood is tired of political correctness and “the kiss-ass generation we’re in right now.”

In a new interview with Esquire, the plain-spoken actor and filmmaker criticized the current state of cultural and political discourse in the U.S. as overly sensitive, citing the controversy surrounding Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as an example.

“He’s said a lot of dumb things,” Eastwood said of Trump and his often incendiary rhetoric. “So have all of them. Both sides. But everybody — the press and everybody’s going, ‘Oh, well, that’s racist,’ and they’re making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f‑‑‑ing get over it. It’s a sad time in history.”

Eastwood said he hasn’t endorsed Trump — or anyone else — but when pressed about who he’d vote for between Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, he replied, “I’d have to go for Trump … you know, ’cause she’s declared that she’s gonna follow in [President Barack] Obama’s footsteps. There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle.”

Earlier in the interview, Eastwood, 86, indicated his opinions reflect a generational difference. “Everybody’s walking on eggshells,” he said. “We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

Though he has a reputation as a man of few words, Eastwood is not exactly a stranger to controversial remarks. In recent years, he addressed an empty chair representing President Obama at the Republican National Convention, joked about shooting liberal firebrand Michael Moore, and made a wisecrack about Caitlyn Jenner at the Guys Choice Awards shortly after her transition.
