Chicago Med stars talk season 2

Medical professionals are supposed to have the answers and heal their patients, but what happens when they are sick? That’s one of the stories in season 2 that the stars of Chicago Med tease in a new interview with EW.

In season 1, nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) was diagnosed with tuberculosis, something that will weigh heavily on the character, both personally and professionally.

“Being diagnosed with tuberculosis has put a huge toll on her personal life, mostly,” says DaCosta. “I’m still at the hospital working because it’s not contagious, but it’s definitely taking a lot of work to be OK with it and it’s not something you heal from overnight. So you’re going to see her go through this journey for a few months of overcoming this disease and seeing how it affects her relationship with her boyfriend and then his son.”

“It was a huge loss for him at the end of the season and coming back this year, he’s been really propelled into down a new path in medicine,” shares Donnell. “And very quickly we meet his new mentor within the cardiothoracic world and it’s a very different kind of mentorship than he had with Dr. Downey.”
