Bob Dylan bails on Obama's Nobel Prize meet-and-greet

Another day, another update on the saga of Bob Dylan and his Nobel Prize.

Dylan skipped out on Wednesday’s meet-and-greet with American Nobel Prize winners hosted by President Obama at the White House, according to The Hill.

“Unfortunately, Bob Dylan will not be at the White House today,” Josh Earnest, Obama’s top spokesman, told reporters. “So everyone can relax.”

The news is just the latest twist in the bizarre sequence of events that has transpired since Dylan was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature in October. Dylan failed to acknowledge the honor at first, and the Swedish Academy all but gave up on trying to reach him. The news appeared and then disappeared from his website until he eventually accepted the award 15 days after receiving it. Then in November, he announced that he would not be going to Stockholm to pick up the prize in person.

The decision to honor Dylan with the prestigious prize was met with much criticism from the literary world, though President Obama was quick to applaud the musician when news first broke.

“Congratulations to one of my favorite poets, Bob Dylan, on a well-deserved Nobel,” he tweeted at the time.
