The Hateful Eight‘sWalton Goggins is in final talks to play the villain in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, which stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, EW has confirmed.

Based on the best-selling video game franchise that previously spawned two Angelina Jolie-led features, the new film from director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) will feature a young Croft setting out on her first adventure.

“I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well,” he previously teased. “I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I’m hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”

With the antagonist role in Tomb Raider, Goggins continues his run of villainous roles: Over the last few years, he has played bad guys in films including Hateful Eight, American Ultra, G.I. Joe Retaliation, and Django Unchained. Recently, the Emmy-nominated actor has been staying busy with starring roles in two very television different series: HBO’s Vice Principals and History’s Six.

Variety first reported the news.
