John Mayer hospitalized for emergency appendectomy, concert delayed

John Mayer was hospitalized in New Orleans on Tuesday to undergo an emergency appendectomy, according to PEOPLE.

“Early this morning, John Mayer was admitted into the hospital for emergency appendectomy forcing the Dead & Company December 5th concert in New Orleans to be postponed,” a representative said in a statement.

“All tickets for the December 5 show will be honored for the rescheduled date,” Dead & Company wrote in a statement. “Information on the rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible. Should ticketholders choose to seek a refund, they will be available at point of purchase.”

Bob Weir tweeted a photo with his Mayer, writing, “Wishing a speedy recovery for John. Get well soon my friend.”

“John, get well soon brother!” bandmate Oteil Burbridge captioned an Instagram. Added Bill Kreutzmann on Instagram, “Wishing you well John!”

The 40-year-old guitarist has been on tour with Grateful Dead offshoot Dead & Company since early last month. The New Orleans show slated for Tuesday evening was the third-to-last show of the string of gigs, initially set to conclude Dec. 8 in Sunrise, Florida. So far, Dead & Company’s Dec. 7 and 8 concerts have not been postponed or canceled.

In addition to another Dead & Company tour earlier this year, Mayer also released and toured an album of his own. Mayer has additional solo tour dates slated for this month, and it’s unclear currently how they’ll be affected.
