Coachella and Stagecoach festivals officially rescheduled to October due to coronavirus

It's official: This year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and Stagecoach country music festival have both been postponed until October, moving from their scheduled dates in April, in response to coronavirus concerns.

Concert promoter Goldenvoice announced the news Tuesday, citing direction from the county of Riverside, Calif., and adding, "While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff, and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials."

Coachella will now take place Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 16-18, moving back from the weekends of April 10 and 17, while Stagecoach will move to Oct. 23-25, from the weekend of April 24.

Held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, this year's Coachella features headliners Rage Against The Machine, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean. Other acts on board include Megan Thee Stallion, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Lana Del Rey. Stagecoach, which is held at the same venue, is being headlined by Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood, and Eric Church.

According to Goldenvoice, all ticket purchases for the original April dates will be honored for the new October dates, and purchasers will be notified by March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they're unable to attend.

The postponements come in the wake of a March 4 declaration of a state of emergency in California over the viral outbreak. The annual Indian Wells tennis tournament, an event held not far from where Coachella and Stagecoach take place, was scrapped days before its March 11 start. The Austin-based SXSW and Miami's Ultra Music Festival were also recently canceled.
