NYC weatherman Sam Champion calls himself 'Daddy' on local news broadcast: 'Is there an adult beverage for Daddy?'

The "Dancing With the Stars" and "Good Morning America" personality spoke the title into existence to New York City local news viewers.

Sam Champion seemingly fancies himself as morning TV's premier Daddy.

The former Dancing With the Stars contestant and Good Morning America personality spiced up his day job on the local news desk Thursday, when the weatherman referred to himself as "Daddy" live on New York City's Eyewitness News Mornings at 10 broadcast.

The moment came as Champion reacted to colleague Shirleen Allicot's tease about an upcoming segment on the opening of Marcus Samuelsson's Manhattan restaurant Metropolis.

"Oh, yes please," Champion said during the voiceover tease, as images of Samuelsson's food flashed on screen, before he asked: "Is there an adult beverage for Daddy?"

Mike Marza chimed in just as a shot of a drink appeared in front of them. "Look at that, right on cue!" he exclaimed. "Wine glass!"

EW has reached out to the local station and a representative for Champion for comment.

Champion's career has given credibility to his self-appointed status as "Daddy" of morning TV, as the 62-year-old broadcast journalist became a popular weather anchor during his tenure on GMA, a post he left in 2013 for a gig at The Weather Channel before becoming a permanent weekday anchor on the local New York City news.
