Survivor 46 exclusive premiere photos reveal giant gecko challenge

Also, who's ready to get muddy?

We've met the cast of Survivor 46 — and a truly electric cast with eclectic tastes it seems to be. Now it's time to get a glimpse at what is facing those players when they step onto the beach for the Survivor 46 premiere (airing Feb. 28 on CBS), courtesy of some exclusive photos of the first episode.

The Siga, Yanu, and Nami tribes will not have long to celebrate making in onto Survivor as they — like all recent season casts before them — will be thrown immediately into a competition with out-of-the-gate stakes. It will involve mud. It will involve nets. It will involve giant puzzle pieces. And that's not all, but you can take a look at the mud, nets, and puzzle pieces below and then try to piece together what other elements might be at play that you are not seeing.

But the opening competition is nothing compared to what awaits the players at the first immunity challenge: namely… a giant gecko! And not just a giant gecko, but a giant gecko that must be transported through a massive obstacle course. Rest assured that what you see in this photo is just a small taste of what contestants must take on in one of the most grueling and visually arresting opening challenges in Survivor history. It's a contest that may leave host and showrunner Jeff Probst smiling, but certainly not the players while they are doing it.

Of course, these images tell just a fraction of the story. Tune in to the two-hour premiere Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS to watch the whole thing play out for yourself.
