- Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton, and more join the snappy cast.May 7, 2024
Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has been put through the wringer. She’s been stalked by a bloodthirsty monster. Her Rave’N gown was ruined by red paint. (The normies couldn’t even spring for real blood?) And she’s had to brave the scariest threat of all: other teens. But things are looking up for Nevermore Academy’s most popular goth. Wednesday Season 2 has officially entered production — and several new cast members are coming along for the ghoulish ride. Expect to see Emmy-winner Steve Buscemi alongside a former Addams Family movie star and many more as Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy.
“Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore,” Wednesday co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough exclusively tell Tudum. “When we survey the talent we’ve assembled we could not be more thrilled. Mission accomplished.”
So what’s ahead for everyone’s favorite spooky teen detective? And which new character is joining Wednesday on her upcoming adventures? Keep reading for a complete Nevermore syllabus’s worth of Wednesday Season 2 news.
What is Wednesday Season 2 about?
The series will continue to chart the supernatural mysteries of Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy. When Wednesday Season 2 was renewed in January 2023, the show promised more “torture” ahead in an announcement video. Naturally — super sleuth Wednesday wouldn’t have it any other way.
“[Wednesday] sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody,” Ortega told Tudum in February 2023. “Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect.”
It’s clear Ortega isn’t the only one who’s come to admire Wednesday’s teenage take on the Addams family’s only daughter. In July 2023, the series was nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world,” Millar and Gough said in January. “We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into Season 2.”
Who is in the Wednesday Season 2 cast?
Ortega will lead Wednesday Season 2 as part-time detective, part-time mystery author, and full-time outcast; she’s also set to executive produce. Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene), Georgie Farmer (Ajax), and Victor Dorobantu (Thing) will return alongside Ortega.
Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Ritchie Santiago) have all become series regulars. Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin) and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) will also return in guest starring roles.
Who is joining Wednesday Season 2?
Wednesday’s world is expanding in Season 2 with a slew of new series regulars, including: Steve Buscemi (The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire), Billie Piper (Scoop, I Hate Suzie), Evie Templeton (Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule), Owen Painter (Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale), and Noah Taylor (Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue).
You can also expect some new guest stars: Addams Family actor Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley (Fool Me Once, Absolutely Fabulous), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld, Crash), Frances O’Connor (The Missing, The Twelve), Haley Joel Osment (The Kominsky Method, Somebody I Used to Know), Heather Matarazzo (The Princess Diaries, Scream), and Joonas Suotamowill all appear.
You can spot some of these newcomers’ character names in the Thing-led video, above:
- Joanna Lumley as Grandmama
- Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort
- Billie Piper as Capri
- Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn
What do we know about the Wednesday Season 2 premiere?
The video above reveals the Wednesday Season 2 premiere is titled “Here We Woe Again.” It is written by Gough and Millar, and directed by Tim Burton.
Where does Wednesday Season 2 film?
The mystery show has entered production in beautiful Ireland.
Who’s behind Wednesday Season 2?
The eerie world of Wednesday comes from Burton, who will continue his role as director and executive producer in Season 2. Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson will also direct. Creators and showrunners Gough and Millar executive produce Wednesday alongside fellow EPs Ortega, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, and Meredith Averill.
MGM Television is the studio behind Wednesday.
What happens in Wednesday Season 1?
Enough twists, turns, and Things to make Wednesday Netflix’s most popular English-language TV series. Season 1 spent 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries with 252.10 million views. In Season 1, Wednesday enrolls in Nevermore Academy and finds herself in the middle of an otherworldly conspiracy. The Season 1 ending leaves Wednesday poised to meet her fair share of adversaries in Season 2.
“Threats remain out there… to both Wednesday and the school,” Millar said. “Not all loose ends have been tied up neatly as she thinks they have.”
Wednesday may not be prone to smiling. But even she might break into the smallest grin over the promise of a new spooky case to crack.
More details about Wednesday Season 2 — from casting info to plot secrets — are still to come. So keep coming back to Tudum for more of the snappiest news around.
