Products from several major ice cream brands are being recalled.

On June 24, the Maryland-based Totally Cool, Inc., issued a voluntary recall on over 60 ice cream products like Jeni’s, Friendly’s and Hershey’s after potential contamination from listeria monocytogenes.

The organism “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” per the notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s site. A listeria infection can also cause high fever, severe headaches, nausea and more symptoms in healthy people, along with miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant individuals.

While no illnesses have been reported yet, Totally Cool, Inc. has stopped production and distribution of all recalled products, according to the FDA-distributed notice.

An exhaustive list of the items can be found on the FDA website. Some of the more popular products made at the facility include a variety of Hershey’s ice cream cakes, cones and sandwiches, along with Friendly’s 60-ounce Celebration ice cream cake and 40-ounce Strawberry Krunch ice cream cake.

Overall, the facility is recalling products from 13 brands, also including names like ChipWich and Cumberland Farms.

A statement from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams states that “listeria was not found in Jeni’s Frozen Dessert Sandwiches, nor the equipment used to produce the products, however, out of an abundance of caution, Jeni’s is voluntarily recalling all Sandwiches as requested by Totally Cool.” No other Jeni's products are impacted.
