In “The Remnant," Jonah Goldberg enlists a “Cannonball Run”-style cast of stars, has-beens, and never-weres to address the most pressing issues of the day. Is America doomed? Has liberalism failed? And will mankind ever invent something better than ‘90s-era “Simpsons?” Mixing political history, pop culture, rank punditry, and shameless book-plugging, Goldberg and guests will have the kinds of conversations we wish they featured on TV. And the nudity will (almost) always be tasteful. Brace your bingo cards.

Yes, You Are a Bad Person

There’s a lot on Jonah’s mind this morning. He’s gaslighting himself about being gaslit, lamenting the diminishing standards of acceptable presidential candidate behavior, and waltzing back some of his initial reactions to VP candidate Tim Walz. Critiques of Wednesday’s G-File are addressed (shame on you, Willem Dafoe), noting the death of true cultural criticism in the age of identity politics. Once that whole fiasco is cleared up, Jonah ponders the bigger questions: Is there such a thing as good dogma? What are we worshipping when we worship politics? Will Jonah’s producers and assistant besmirch him for the length of this Ruminant? All will be revealed.

    Eschaton Now

The inimitable Walter Russell Mead, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, stops by to enjoy what can only be described as an intellectual smorgasbord. Jonah and Walter evaluate the ongoing war in Israel, diving into the land-for-peace fallacy, questions about what constitutes nationhood and patriotism, and how to orient American foreign policy toward a more peaceful future. The duo then pivots to a more theological realm, discussing the apocalypse, how liberalism and Marxism mirror Abrahamic faiths, and the conflation between political conviction and moral intuition.

Set your VCR’s for a one-of-a-kind, super-epic, think tank crossover episode! Brookings Institution senior fellow Jonathan Rauch is the special guest star today, joining Jonah to discuss all things party politics. Topics range from primary reform and the introduction of rank-choice voting to the newly announced Democratic vice presidential pick Tim Walz. Make Flip Flopping Great (Again?)

    Make Flip Flopping Great (Again?)

Sweaty, hot, and unprepared. Jonah is listening to the Cranberries and driving his car over nails on the way to CNN, where they will likely lock him in the studio and force him to pundit until the full moon rises. To distract himself, he ruminates upon social Darwinism, pronunciation, the National Association for Black Journalists, and the stunning lack of seriousness on the Right.

    To Hell With You People

When Jonah finds himself in times of trouble, John Podhoretz comes on TheRemnant. The theme for today’s episode is something all pundits enjoy: the blissful embrace of intellectual schadenfreude. Jonah and John make the case for equivocation within the Harris campaign strategy, discuss the definition of weird and the be-clowning of Project 2025, and call out the astounding lack of outrage regarding the Democrats’ antisemitism problem. To close it all out, the duo covers the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas.

For a much-needed break from the 2024 election news cycle, Jonah visits his Floridian friend, Dr. Will Inboden, who serves as the director of the Alexander Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida. Jonah and Will discuss UF’s unique approach to higher-education reform, preach a sermon of Reaganite revival, and project some fears regarding the future of foreign policy.

Hadn’t listened in a while - still a great listen

I’m probably an npr tote bag personified myself so hearing Jonah hoist that upon Pete Buttigieg caused some morning coffee shortage. Also a very good point of reflection that “I know who we need is the Biden administration’s transportation minister” is self-evidently ridiculous when so framed. Insightful and witty as I expect and enjoy from Jonah Goldberg. Keep on trucking!

Lincoln Project Lite

Jonah, while interesting to listen to, is clearly no conservative. Proof: HE STATED HE IS COMFORTABLE WITH KAMALA HARRIS AS PRESIDENT. Anybody can call themselves whatever they want, but he clearly it is not a conservative, which I believe he actually once was. He stated that Biden has not been a very good president. Biden has been a horrendous president, but Jonah hates Trump more than he could ever love America. Not a Trump fan myself, but I have not been deranged as Goldberg has. What a waste. 02/10/24--Professes to be a both sideser but lets Democrats off the hook all the time. Jonah definitely is not a conservative anymore. He is right of center, but barely. He says he is a both sideser, but rails on Republicans endlessly and throws in a sprinkle of giving the Democrats a hard time just to say he looks at both sides. I have enjoyed his podcast, but I'm beginning to think he is either a phony or the most self unaware so-called conservative out there. Do better, Jonah. 12/30/2023 I really have enjoyed this podcast even though Goldberg is a both sideser on steroids. However, his latest show was mind-boggling. First he said the whack jobs on the right are worse than the whack jobs on the left, but then corrected his true feelings by taking that back a little. However, the big one was calling Charles CW Cook a fraud and grifter, and put him in the same bucket as Candace Owens. Good grief, are you serious? Cook is one of the most thoughtful people out there and is not a grifter in any way, shape, or form. Get a grip, Jonah. -----------------------------------------------------Initial Review: First, let me say that at this point, I cannot stand Donald Trump. However, Goldberg said there was no value to his presidency. Seriously? The judicial picks, the border security, the best economy in 50 years , and he can see no value in the Trump presidency? Would he have rather had Hillary Clinton for four years? Trump is a mess that I wish would just go away, but Goldberg is blinded by his hate for him. He seems to loathe most conservatives for some reason, as well. If you never thought a conservative could be an elitist, all you need to do is look at Jonah Goldberg and you will know otherwise. boy, do I miss his mom. Goldberg seems to criticize conservatives about 95% of the time and occasionally gives the left a hard time with a "Oh yeah…and the left, too..." Not sure what happened to him after he wrote about liberal fascism, but I give him three stars for having people like Matthew Continetti on. Other than that, his never Trumper insanity has made him hyper critical of the right and he leaves the left alone for the most part. And by the way, I don't like Trump either, but it hasn't made me nuts.

Not a good look.

When you’re invited on a reputable podcast and you accept, not a good look when one of your own guests badmouths that podcast’s host after your interview, and all you give is a milquetoast response. Harry Litman treated you respectfully. You should have responded in kind.
