The Ultimate Heist Movie: Ocean's Eleven (2001)
Ocean’s 11 is the 2001 remake of the Rat-Pack led 60s original. That version is… a real sleeper. As in, I can’t keep my eyes open when I watch it. This film was directed by iconic minimalism filmmaker Steven Soderbergh and stars one of the greatest all star line-up casts I’ve ever seen in George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Bernie Mac, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Casey Affleck, Andy Garcia, Elliot Gould, and Eddie Jemison.
In the film, Danny Ocean has just been released from prison after serving a sentence for high thievery. Once out, he immediately heads to Las Vegas to begin plotting a simultaneous heist job and revenge scheme to spite his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, Terry Benedict (played by Andy Garcia). The plan is simple, assemble a crew big enough to pull off the job, and then knock off three casinos in one night in the most secure public area in the Western United States without getting caught- and then make it out of Vegas Scott free and millions of dollars richer.

Twisters Movie Review
Twenty-eight years later, Twister is finally getting a quasi-sequel, Twisters, which, to its credit, has some terrific talent involved. That includes two of the most promising rising stars of the moment, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, and a unique choice for a director in Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung. But can it live up to the original?

The A-Team Is Actually Kind Of Good
in 1983, our TV screens were glowing with the high octane action and explosions of Frank Lupo and Stephen J. Cannell's The A-Team, a show that would put a team of wild mercenaries against high-profile criminals. Then in 2010, years after Mr. T and George Peppard had retired their badges, we were treated to a silver screen adaptation of the show starring the likes of Liam Neeson, Bradly Cooper, Jessica Biel, Quinton Jackson , and even Patrick Wilson. The film was ultimately forgotten by audiences almost immediately and has since joined the ranks of underwhelming remakes in Hollywood. However, is it REALLY that bad? We don't think so. Let's get into it.

WTF Happened to ERIC ROBERTS?
In the 1985 cult classic Runaway Train, Buck McGeehy is a ruggedly handsome man whose impulsivity is nearly his downfall. Though he stares death in the face, he ultimately declared “I don’t wanna die!” and was able to comfort another. “We gonna be alright. We gonna be fine.” Ultimately, it’s his risk-taking, determination, and defiance of convention that drew people to him and enabled him to be successful. Eric Roberts, who portrayed Buck in the film, nearly had his career and even his life derailed soon after the train left the station. A promising start steered him right into temptations that almost got the better of him, but his tenacity, tireless work ethic, and the support of others propelled him toward perseverance and helped him get back on track toward the most prolific acting career in Western Cinema. What stops were there along the way?

What Happened to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome?!
Nailing the final entry of a classic cinematic trilogy is always the most difficult to get right. Tasked with sticking the landing and tying the narrative strands across three movies together requires a precise amount of pre-planning that must be executed in ways that both trump its predecessors and satisfy fans at once with a compelling conclusion. Every once in a while, we get perfect trilogy-enders like The Good, the Bad and The Ugly, The Return of the King, or The Last Crusade. But more often than not, we get limp and lackluster results like The Godfather Part III, Jaws 3D, Terminator: Rise of the Machines, Alien 3, Back to the Future 3, Men in Black III, and countless other movies that fail to live up to the first two instalments. That begs the question, where does Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome register on the scale of all-time good or bad final chapters in movie trilogies?
Released four years after the Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was made much differently than the first two films. For instance, Beyond Thunderdome is the first Mad Max movie made without instrumental producer Byron Kennedy, who tragically died in a 1983 helicopter crash. It’s also the only franchise entry to be co-directed by someone other than Miller. In this case, Miller hired his friend and previous collaborator, George Ogilvie, to helm the sequel. While there are plenty more cool tidbits and trivial factoids about the making of the movie, it’s hard to overstate the absence of Byron and the split directorial duties that led to what many believe is the worst Mad Max movie thus far. “Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, Dyin’ time is here” as we lift the hood and find out What Happened to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome!

Deadpool was just a good X-Men Movie...
True Believers, it feels like just yesterday we were treated to the highest grossing R rated film of its time in 2016’s Deadpool. And in the 8 years since, the franchise has still not lost its steam with this years Deadpool and Wolverine set to conclude the series as it stands in the Fox universe, and plants our 4th wall breaking bad boy into the MCU. I’m sure it’ll go fine…
But today, my friends we take a nostalgic look back at the first installment in this soon-to-be trilogy and see if in a world of shared universes and studio crossovers, this movie still has the juice that made it one of the biggest hits on film history. Let’s go!

What Happened to The Road Warrior?
Quick: what’s the all-time best middle movie in a popular OG cinematic trilogy? Yes, The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back are obvious and beyond reproach, but what else comes to mind? Aliens? Terminator 2? Back to the Future Part 2? Evil Dead 2? Hell, what about Oldboy or The Temple of Doom? Yeah, all worthy responses that happened to be flat-out wrong!
When peering through the rear-view at the best movie trilogy centerpiece, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior leaves the others in the dust. Released two years after the handcrafted, low-budget original Mad Max, the making of The Road Warrior couldn’t have been more different than what visionary filmmaker George Miller experienced on the first go-around. For instance, the first film was hampered by limited resources and budgetary restrictions. Meanwhile, the sequel was strapped with over 10 times the original movie’s budget, allowing Miller to execute the dazzling, death-defying set pieces and action sequences that eluded him in the first film.
Yet, despite the financial leeway that gave Miller creative freedom, the maxing of The Road Warrior was anything but a smoothly paved escapade. In detailing the production history of Mad Max 2, we’ll learn what inspired the film, how it was developed, how long it took to make, the problems Miller encountered, on-set injuries and accidents, cool trivial anecdotes, and more. After all, we’re not just here for the gasoline, we’re about to find out What Happened to The Road Warrior ahead!

Sucker Punch - NOT As Bad As You Thought?
When Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch premiered in 2011, it was met with a polarizing reception. Critics and audiences were off-put by its unique style, ambitious narrative structure, and the way it blended genres. As someone who initially viewed the film through a less mature lens, I found myself unimpressed, to put it mildly, by its convoluted plot and perceived lack of substance. Hell, I even watched it twice upon release just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. As time went on, I had moved on from the stale taste it bestowed upon me. So much so that I had even skipped any future Snyder offerings. Yes, this includes his DCEU output. Maybe I’ll get to those one day. Who knows? However, one thing I do know is for certain: Zack Snyder loves himself a director’s cut of his films. Recently, he has expressed his determination to give his first original film the ol’ Snyder Cut treatment, even going as far as to say he has footage already shot for it. So, it got me thinking. Was this movie as bad as I remembered it? Or would my more mature eyes see something in this picture I missed on my initial viewings? Let’s see if third time’s a charm as I revisit Sucker Punch thirteen years later.

What is Unbreakable REALLY About?!
Director M. Night Shyamalan has earned himself quite the reputation as both a visionary filmmaker and the king of twist endings, and oh- how could I forget that he also makes some very whack movies. It’s interesting to think that the same genius who made The Sixth Sense, also made The Happening. But one thing that cannot be debated is that this man has also made some extremely awesome movies. And one of those movies has been begging for a breakdown on this show since the very beginning. An unmistakable classic that unknowingly started a trilogy and uprooted comic book cinema in a very unexpected way. Today, we’re talking about Unbreakable.
After surviving a freakish train crash- David (played by the great Bruce Willis) seems to be the only person who wasn’t killed. In fact, he wasn’t even hurt in this horrendous wreck. Now David is a pretty normal guy. A quiet, blue-collar townie who married his high school sweetheart- they were literally the High-School Quarterback and Cheer Leader couple. Over the course of the movie, David will discover that he has a sort of superpower. He’s impossibly strong, seemingly invincible, and as tragic and morally driven as the best of them. But every hero has his villain, and his kryptonite. The story guides us through David’s struggle to understand his power, while he’s also being harassed by the comic-book obsessed Elijah (played by Samuel L. Jackson) who aims to make himself a proper foil to the world’s first Superhero.
Now if this movie is among your favorite in the Shyamalan collection (like it is for me) then you’re in for a real treat in today’s episode where we put this movie under the microscope and try to extract as much meaning as possible from this incredibly fun film. I want to know what makes it tick, ya know? Is it the shlubby, relatable hero that Willis is so great at playing? Is it the dark yet colorful world this film is set in? Or is it a combination of like a million elements? I don’t know- but today we’re going to figure out- what is Unbreakable REALLY about?

WTF Happened to DAVID LETTERMAN?
It’s October 2009 and Woody Harrelson has a zombie comedy to promote. But before he can do so on THE LATE SHOW, David Letterman has something to share. And so after his monologue, Letterman took to his desk, telling those in the Ed Sullivan Theater that he had a story to share. No top 10 lists. No stupid pet tricks. No visits with Rupert Jee at the Hello Deli. For 10 minutes, Letterman laid it out. One morning he woke up to find an envelope in the back seat of his car and in it was proof that he had been having affairs with members of his female staff. This was as raw and stripped as David Letterman had ever allowed himself to be in decades on late night television. And it wasn’t Jay Leno or Les Moonves or any of his foes that caused it. It was David Letterman himself. But did this destroy his career and reputation? Was he able to bounce back? There are more than 10 reasons we chose our subject this week…So let’s find out: WTF Happened to…DAVID LETTERMAN?

What Happened to the Rollerball Remake?
John McTiernan is a household name. A man who defined action films. Let’s just name a few…we got Die Hard, Predator, Die Hard With A Vengeance and yes, Last Action Hero. He has also made some other great films like The Thomas Crown Affair and The Hunt for Red October. He has made some stinkers such as Medicine Man, The 13th Warrior and Basic. But, what if I told you that there’s a film he directed that was the catalyst to him ending up in Federal Prison. Sounds crazy right? But it’s true. Today, we are here to look at Rollerball. A movie that’s word of mouth is so bad, you’d think we would have covered it on our Awfully Good Channel. But alas, this will be the first time we dive in. So sit back, relax and take it all in as we check out WTF Happened To Rollerball.

Warhead 007 - The James Bond Film That Never Was
One of the most fascinating chapters in the James Bond cinematic saga is the story of Warhead, a 007 film that almost was, then wasn't, then kinda was, then almost was again a couple times, then never was. Developed in the 1970s by Kevin McClory, Len Deighton, and the O.G. Bond Sean Connery, Warhead was meant to be a grittier take on the Bond franchise, with some truly crazy elements thrown in for good measure. It became a casualty of war between conflicting creative forces, leaving us to wonder what could have been and just how and why this movie went unmade. It eventually “kinda” got made as Never Say Never Again in 1983, but what was made was very different from what was intended: perhaps thankfully.

What Happened to EPIC MEAL TIME?
The YouTube channel Epic Meal Time was an unlikely viral phenomenon that took the internet by storm in the early 2010s. Its brilliant yet deceptively simple premise of creating outrageously unhealthy fast food concoctions resonated immensely with a certain subset of viewers. Episodes like the staggeringly caloric "Fast Food Lasagna" and "Turbacon Epic Thanksgiving" special would build anticipation by meticulously assembling and teasing the final caloric monstrosity, while also tapping into cultural trends of the time like the obsession with bacon and the exaggerated macho bro persona embodied by host Harley Morenstein.
This novel format combined shocking excess, culinary debauchery, frat boy humor, and a liberal dose of alcohol into a perfect storm of viral wildfire, generating massive word-of-mouth buzz that rapidly propelled Epic Meal Time from a low-budget cooking channel to one of the biggest presences on the entire YouTube platform within its first few years. At its peak, the show's audacious videos were practically unavoidable in the cultural conversation. So WTF Happened to Epic Meal Time?

Bad Boys Ride Or Die Movie Review
People may not realize it, but Bad Boys For Life remains the highest grossing domestic release of 2020. Sure, that pandemic thing might have helped matters, but it was a smash hit. So why is this sequel, Bad Boys: Ride or Die being given such a low key build up? Maybe it’s the residual effect of the Oscar slap, with this being a way of testing Will Smith’s bankability, or the aging franchise, but people seem less excited about this movie than they should be - because it’s a total blast and we’ll tell you all about it in our review!

What Happened to TIMOTHY DALTON?
For over a decade, Roger Moore had the task of living up to everything that Sean Connery had put in place as 007. And while some will defend Moore forever, we can’t forget the clown costumes and slide whistles and gondola chases and so, so much more that pushed James Bond into an uncharted level of ridiculousness. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented had Timothy Dalton not been so green, turning down ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE because he was in his mid-20s. That’s all hypothetical, of course, but Timothy Dalton would go on to reinvent James Bond in a way that may not have sat with contemporary audiences but marked a true challenge for what it meant to carry the torch. Dalton played 007 just twice; and with that, we’d challenge you to name just as many worthwhile post-Bond movies from the under-appreciated actor.Let’s find out: WTF Happened to…TIMOTHY DALTON?

What Happened to Unsolved Mysteries (1987-1999)?
True Crime is a part of everyday media that the TV series, specials, films, and documentaries all about it have been around forever. But actually, that's not the case. The format we now see, wasn’t the norm at all in the 80s. A weekly series built around cases and interviews with the people who were a part of them, re-enacting the crimes…had never been done before.
But then one day a series came along that would not only showcase True Crime but would also give us ghosts, UFOs, and all points in between. Not only that, but the theme song would cause PTSD in most kids my age who had the fortune or misfortune to hear it. That series is Unsolved Mysteries, a series so popular that it changed not only pop culture but the way investigations within law enforcement were conducted.
Today on Gone But Not Forgotten, we’re delving into the question of what happened to Unsolved Mysteries.

What Happened to DANNY GLOVER?
Detective Murtaugh sees a mysterious man pull out a weapon in the middle of a police station. He heroically jumps into action to project and serve and tackle. But it turns out it is just god ol’ Mel Gibson who overpowers and flips this 50 year old character, who is played by a 40 year old actor Danny Glover. Humiliated and hurt, Danny Glover spits out an iconic line that has grown ti define him career and it’s a meme, “I’m too old for this sh**.” Danny Glover was too old for this sh** 3 decades ago… but he has kept on grinding, making motion pictures ever since. But maybe Danny Glover is too old for this sh**…. if that “sh**” is good movies. Oh I kid! I kid!
Glover may not have any Oscars (or, surprisingly, a single nomination) but he did get a late start in his movie career – having broken out in his 40s – So what has Danny Glover, now on the cusp of his 80s, been doing? He’s certainly not retired – not on the big screen and not through his other endeavors. But how has he spent his years? What has he been doing instead of giving us the LETHAL WEAPON 5 we deserve? Or at least a Danny Glover Arnold Schwarzenegger buddy cop Predator sequel?!!! I would settle for a Wes Anderson cameo actually….
Let’s find out: WTF Happened to…DANNY GLOVER?

What Happened to Collateral?
If Heat and The Insider are agreed upon as Michael Mann’s all-time best films, what is the director’s most underrated feature to date? Is it Thief? The Keep? Manhunter? Public Enemies? Nah. There’s only one acceptable answer: 2004’s criminally overlooked nocturnal neo-noir Collateral. Featuring a rare villainous turn by Tom Cruise and a restrained Oscar-nominated performance by Jamie Foxx, the L.A. crime story was the first film in history to utilize the Viper FilmStream High Definition Camera. The digital format that David Fincher would later adopt for use on Zodiac and Benjamin Button. Beyond the cutting-edge technology, the remote locations Mann and his production team gave viewers a much different glimpse of Los Angeles away from the glamor of Hollywood and into the seedy, sinister parts of town rarely seen on the big screen.
Believe it or not, Collateral was conceived by screenwriter Stuart Beattie when he was 17 years old after taking a taxi home from an airport in Sydney, Australia. Before Mann, Cruise, and Foxx boarded the project, the movie was to be directed by City of God’s Fernando Meirelles, and Russell Crowe was attached to play the suave, calculated hitman Vincent. If it weren’t for Crowe’s interest, Mann possibly never would have landed in the director’s chair. Remember, Mann and Crowe had made The Insider a few years earlier and were actively looking to reunite for a worthy follow-up. For this and a whole lot more, it’s time to discover What Happened to Collateral as the movie celebrates its 20th anniversary this August.

What Happened to WES STUDI?
Actor Wes Studi heard that director Michael Mann was putting together a little bank robbery picture called Heat. According to Wes Studi himself, he proactively called Michael Mann's office to land the role of Detective Sammy Casals. His passion for the character and project led to his Last of the Mohicans director casting him again in another great role that allowed him to show off some range. This allowed Wes Studi to go beyond the “leather and feathers of period dramas” even though he excels in those too. He stole the show in Best Picture Dances with Wolves and his character didn’t even have a real name, the credits call him “Toughest Pawnee”. And he is probably the only actor who can get away with asking Daniel Day-Lewis to sign his autograph... with his left foot. He has worked alongside some of the most talented artists in the biz and made sure to thank them when he technically became the first Native American to win an Oscar. Upon accepting his unholy golden idol, he received a standing ovation from his peers and colleagues, who finally recognized this man’s work. Iconic Native American actor Wes Studi, perfected his craft by embracing his personal and ancestral history. Using his like experiences, he is able to help audiences feel like they are fighting along side a true warrior. He had already led what most would refer to as a full life before he entered acting, so he rightfully has always seen himself as more than an actor. So gather around and pass over that peace pipe as we try to find out how this dude became such a cinematic badass and discover What Happened to Wes Studi.

What Exactly Is WOKE CINEMA?! (And Why People Hate It)
In this new on-going series, we will examine the current political climate surrounding all things “woke” when it comes to the cinematic arts. Are Hollywood studios pushing an agenda? Is this creating a division amongst us peasants? Is it even possible to critique or watch a film without politics coming into play anymore?
Our hot shot team of dedicated researchers may have found out that things might not be so black and white… Pun intended? Who knows anymore?! It is an exciting and scary time to be making and watching movies but that type of chaotic environment allows this medium to experiment and grow. Controversy can always inspire conversation and that’s what we are hoping to do with this new show.
I believe it was the Disney+ flick Peter & Wendy that responded with a “So!?” when asked why The Lost Boys were not exactly Boys. And I believe it was South Park’s Cartman who, while poking fun at Kathleen Kennedy said, “Put a chick in it and make her lame and gay.” Sooooo…. What did she mean by “So?” and what did Cartman mean by “Put a chick in it and make her lame and gay.’? I don’t exactly understand all of that but do I understand LAME. Trust me, I identify as lame.
Like it or not, in the minds of many, the definition of “woke” has changed to mean “lame”. It used to be cool. “Stay woke” was seen as a battle cry to fight injustice and bring equality to the people. But the phrase got overused to the point of parody and social justice morphed into a business and even almost a religion. Wokeness began with the best of intentions but evolved/mutated/transitioned into something well…lame. The definition of the word lame is “uninspiring and dull”. That is what many of these new films and characters have been feeling like… uninspiring and dull. Unfortunately, many of these new dull sources of art and entertainment fall under the category of “Woke”. This unfortunately creates a connection in our collective minds that “woke” content equals “lame” content. This word “lame” also means “unable to walk without difficulty” which is what’s happening to Disney and other studios, who seem to be doubling down on the pandering of “wokeness” in their content, rather than quality entertainment.
Context is key when a film is labeled “woke” and it depends on who is doing the labeling and if the movie is good or not. “Lame Wokeness" is very forgivable when the film offers other “cool” cinematic aspects. You got Good Woke, Bad Woke and Ugly Woke and somehow the Good Woke is overshadowed by the abundance of Bad Ugly Woke… which is lame…. and confusing… but that’s why we are trying our best to tackle these issues. Cinema is still a relatively new tool for artistic expression and we are still making mistakes when it comes to how to tell the best story in the most effective way possible. This new call to arms for our content to be more woke or less woke is the next frontier to explore and who knows what we will find in this new wild wild west of wokeness.
At first, “Woke Cinema” was all about telling new stories from new points of view from people who may not have had their stories told in the past due to actual hate and discrimination and racism or sexism or any-ism you wanna ism. But maybe those good intentions went too far, lost focus and began to feel forced, done out of fear and almost hateful themselves; creating enemies out of lifelong allies and supporters. Was it intentional or an accident? Not even the most perfect of teenage rocket scientist Mary Sue Jedi can answer that.

BASEketball - Overachieving at Underachieving!
There’s a forgotten chapter in the saga of Matt Stone and Trey Parker. In between South Park’s early success and their big-screen hit, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, which gave them legit critical respectability, the pair starred in a movie for Airplane- The Naked Gun director David Zucker - BASEketball. It remains the only project the two have ever acted in that they didn’t write, direct or produce themselves, and it was a major box office flop that’s become unfairly obscure over the years. But, if you grew up in the late nineties and liked South Park, chances are you saw it when it hit video - and probably more than once.

Judgment Night: The Ultimate 90s Action Thriller
It’s a story we’ve all heard before. A group of friends stray off the beaten path and end up having to fight for their lives. This has served as the set-up for many classic horror films and thrillers. Back in the early ‘90s, director Stephen Hopkins used it as the set-up for an action movie that has an awesome cast. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Dorff play the friends fighting to survive. Denis Leary is the leader of the criminal gang out for their blood. Unfortunately, not a lot of people went to see the movie when it was released… but they did make the soundtrack a hit. The movie is called Judgment Night, and it’s time for it to be Revisited.

What Happened to CHANNING TATUM?
From "Magic Mike" to "This Is The End" to a cancelled Gambit film set in the X-men universe, Channing Tatum is far and away one of the more interesting cases of career trajectory. An actor that began his career as a hunky boyfriend-type but soon would sink his teeth into more comedic territory that would pay dividends in Seth Rogen led film "This Is The End" and his run starring alongside Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street 1&2. With a promising talent for being charming, funny, and easy on the eyes- Channing was a shoe-in for the role of Gambit in a super-powered heist film meant to be produced by 20th Century Fox. Not to mention the iconic leaked emails from the Sony hack some years ago which showed Tatum's interest in a Ghostbusters reboot. In any situation, this guys has won the hearts of many and has proven to have much more left in the tank.
