On Monday the 22nd July, beneficiaries of Door 84 Youth & Community Centre came together with researchers from York St. John University to celebrate the completion of our collaborative research project, 'Re-Imagining Door 84' 🎉 Members of the research team have worked with Door 84 staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries for the past eight months, to produce a report that is intended to help Door 84 build a more sustainable future 📝 Entitled ‘Re-Imagining Door 84’, one of the project strands has seen young people from our youth groups design and carry out their own research projects, with the goal of understanding what Door 84 means to local people. Their findings have shown the value of the services that Door 84 offers, and the need for "more Door 84" in the future. The YSJ research team have also worked collaboratively with participants of our ‘Community Sparks group’ and our Community Café, to gain a clearer insight into the services and spaces that local people need 🤝 Monday’s celebration saw the Door 84 team and the York St John researchers come together with the local community to unveil a video that was produced by the young people. The young people were awarded certificates for their role in collecting survey responses and conducting interviews, as well as having chance to play the board games that they have designed and developed with members of the research team 🎲 This project was funded by the York St. John University Institute for Social Justice ‘Community Research Grants’ scheme, which offers annual grants for socially oriented research projects. We would also like to extend our gratitude to YorkMix for photographing the event - you can read more on their website: https://lnkd.in/dhRYifgA 💙

Our Executive Charity Manager Lisa and Community Manager Diane attended the 'York Enterprise Awards 2024' on Wednesday evening! 💙 Hosted by Enterprise Works at the University of York, Door 84 Youth & Community Centre was nominated for the 'Community Changemaker' award. While we were not the winners on this occasion, it was an honour to be nominated and to spend the evening chatting with fantastic local organisations. A huge congratulations to all the other nominees who attended! 🎉

Door 84 had an absolutely amazing time at the annual Rotary York Dragon Boat Race! 🐉 Not only was it a fun day, it was amazing to see and hear those who came to support us! 🥰 For the first time, Door 84 made it into the final, and we even won the 'Charity Trophy' awarded to the fastest charity team! 🥳 More importantly, we smashed our fundraising target! The funds raised allow us to continue to work and support those in the community. The event wouldn't have been possible without the support from JOHN WRIGHT ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL SERVICES LIMITED. Thank you so much for the continued support. Same again next year? 💙 Donations can still be made up until September, so if you would like to support the team's efforts, you can visit https://lnkd.in/eqr46QVu

Last week, Door 84 hosted an afternoon tea as a celebration of all our amazing volunteers and everything they do for our organisation! 🎉 Marking #NationalVolunteerWeek , volunteers were presented with certificates and awards to thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment, and of course we made sure there was plenty of time for games and socialising too! 💙 Over the last 12 months, 3931 volunteering hours have been completed across Door 84's provision - this is the equivalent cost of approx. £59k in saved salaries! These staggering figures really do illustrate the importance of volunteering, and why at Door 84 we are so grateful and proud of our volunteer team 😍
