First images emerge of Scottie Scheffler in jail amid shock arrest

The first photos of Scottie Scheffler in jail have emerged after his shocking arrest on Friday morning. While trying to make his tee time at Valhalla for the second round of the PGA Championship, the world No. 1 got detained following a misunderstanding with officers.

Later in the day, pictures of Scheffler in the facility were obtained by TMZ. A fellow inmate appeared to sneak a selfie in with the PGA Tour star while he talked to officers. TMZ also asked an individual who was detained with Scheffler about his demeanor in custody, to which he responded: 'He kept saying it was [rubbish] that he was there.'

Staff members and officers were also reportedly starstruck by the golfer. According to TMZ's source, jail staff and corrections officials were getting glimpses of Scheffler behind bars.

After an unexpected start to his morning, Scheffler was able to get out and made his 10:08 am tee time. Scheffler birdied the first hole and shot a 5-under 66 at the Championship.

It was revealed that a fatal accident involving a pedestrian happened outside the club at 5.09am. With the heavy traffic caused by the accident, Scheffler got caught in a misunderstanding, which led to him dragging an officer with his vehicle. 

Upon his release, Scheffler detailed the incident on his Instagram story. 'This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers, he wrote. 

'It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do,' he added. 

The pro golfer concluded: I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.' 

Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic. However, prosecutors in Kentucky are reportedly expected to drop the charges.
