Horror at Ohio theme park Kings Island as man is hit by rollercoaster

A man at a theme park in Ohio was struck by a rollercoaster, according to police.

The incident happened around 8:00 pm Wednesday on the 'Banshee' ride at King Island amusement park.

Standing at 167 feet tall and 4,124 feet long, the Banshee is the world's longest steel inverted roller coaster. Its top speed is 68 mph - which is only reached at the midway of the ride, according to the theme park's website.

First responders were called to the scene after receiving a report of a man struck by rollercoaster while it was traveling a its top speed. Initial emergency dispatches said the man suffered a 'traumatic injury,' and was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The 38-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, was found injured inside the restricted area.

He 'entered a restricted, fenced area of the Banshee roller coaster and is believed to have been struck by the ride,' the theme park said in a statement to FOX19 NOW.

'The park's safety and first aid personnel responded immediately to the situation and contacted local emergency responders,' the statement read.

'The ride remains closed while local authorities and park personnel conduct an investigation.

'Kings Island's focus continues to be on the welfare of the guest and his family.'

A current update on the man's condition has not been released.

The Banshee ride will remain closed while authorities and park personnel investigate the incident.

Neither police or park officials have determined the motive behind the man's decision to enter the restricted area.

The Banshee first opened in 2014, and is one of the amusement park's main attractions.
