Customer unleashes on Bunnings' dogs policy after witnessing disgusting act in one of its stores

A Bunnings' customer has unleashed at the hardware giant's policy of allowing dogs in stores, complaining that 'it's a shop, not a dog park'.

The woman took to social media this week to share a photo of dog poo in the aisle at her local Bunnings in Campbelltown in Sydney's south-west.

She said she had to warn people to watch their step before tracking down a staff member to ask them to clean it up - adding she wasn't a 'Karen' and was a dog owner herself but simply believed they shouldn't be allowed inside the store.

The woman said when she returned with a staff member, another customer had already wheeled over the offending hazard with their trolley, making a bigger mess.

'Earlier during my visit, a young lab wrapped himself and his lead around the legs of another customer,' she said.

'A friend I saw not long after told me she witnessed a woman clicking her fingers in the air to get staff attention to come and clean up after her dog.

'The week prior there was a dog fight at the service desk.

'Why are we allowing non-service dogs into a hardware shop?' she asked.

Many commenters on social media were supportive of not allowing dogs in the stores, with some saying it could even be a safety issue if animals got loose.

'Some people are allergic, some are scared, not everyone wants to be around your bloody dog. Leave it home,' one wrote.

'Totally agree...  If it's hot for tradie dogs [in cars], make a [shaded] dog pen outside,' another said.

'When did this become acceptable,' a third added.

'Pets don't belong in retail stores. If it's a service dog that's different, but this has to stop,' a fourth said.

'I know a few Bunnings staff members who are tired of dogs crapping and worse, cocking a leg and p***ing ... No fun to have to clean it up,' said a fifth.

Many also slammed the dog owner who left the pooch's business for someone else to clean up.

'As someone who takes their dog to Bunnings, I couldn't fathom being ok with letting the dog crap inside let alone leaving it! Disgusting act disgraceful,' one person said.

'The problem isn't the dogs, it's the owners,' another said.

Bunnings said it 'welcomes' well-behaved pets but they must be controlled by owners who should also clean up after their animals.

'We've been welcoming pets into our stores for many years and love the feedback from customers about how much they enjoy having their four-legged companions with them while they shop with us,' Bunnings chief customer officer Rachael McVitty said.

'Like many other retailers that offer pet products, we take a common-sense approach when welcoming dogs into our stores.

'The feedback we receive shows that the vast majority of pet owners are respectful of other customers and our team when they're in our stores.

'We work hard to make sure our stores are safe, welcoming environments for everyone and we're disappointed to hear one of our customers had a negative experience.'

McVitty said customers are encouraged to reach out to team members 'so we can resolve it on the spot'.
