'We can still improve more': Joan Laporta insists cash-strapped Barcelona will 'improve the squad' in the 'winter market' despite selling off several assets to fund summer spree of over £145m on 'powerful' squad

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is adamant that the club will continue to spend in the upcoming winter transfer market, despite having to sell several of their assets to fund their most recent spending spree.
Laporta, currently serving his second term at the Camp Nou, is adamant that his side can work towards further strengthening the team, adding to the likes of recent acquisitions Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.
Barca currently sit top of LaLiga, level on points with this weekend's opponents Real Madrid as they make an improved start to the season domestically in 2022-23.

'We are working on the market,' Laporta told Barca TV. 'We have had talks with the coaching staff and we intend to improve the squad, which is already very powerful but can still improve more.
'We are working with the coach, with the technical secretariat and the director of football for this winter market.
'We have been analysing things for some time and the team will be improved if we have the chance to do so.'

The club's recent signings have had an impact on a squad that was filled with aged stars far beyond their best, and many who were not good enough to justify the exorbitant financial burden they placed on the club.
Much of the initial work in the summer was centred on casting aside this dead wood, moving on the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Miralem Pjanic, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho.
But while the work to right the ship has paid clear dividends in the league, Barca are now on the verge of an early exit from the Champions League, with just one win from four games.

The Blaugrana now have the first Clasico of the season to look forward to this weekend, the first real domestic test of their credentials.
They have only conceded once, with defensive recruits Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Hector Bellerin and Marcos Alonso having an instant impact.
But they are also the league's top scorers, led of course by the talismanic Lewandowski who already has nine league goals and two assists from eight games to his name.
