The lucrative package that Fenerbahce used to lure Jose Mourinho to their Istanbul lair has been revealed by the club's president.

Mourinho attracted tens of thousands of fans to his unveiling on Sunday after putting pen to paper on a reported two-year deal.

It sees the Portuguese return to management five months after he was sacked by Roma

Fenerbahce went agonisingly close to the title this season, garnering 99 points and losing only once but falling three points short of bitter rivals Galatasaray.

In an unconventional move, the club's president Ali Koc has revealed to the world the exact sum they offered to tempt Mourinho.

Koc said that 'Mourinho was impressed by our dreams' and that they offered a superior package to their rivals

Koc said that 'Mourinho was impressed by our dreams' and that they offered a superior package to their rivals

'Other clubs other than us met with Mourinho. Besiktas also contacted him,' Koc began.

'Aziz Yıldırım and Sadettin Saran also met. But we met before all of these. We made a much more suitable offer than the offer made by Aziz Yıldırım and he accepted it.

'Mourinho was impressed by our dreams. We gave him and his entire team €12million annually.'

It is unclear from his comment if that €12m is exclusively for Mourinho or if it is shared among his backroom team.

All the same, it amounts to £10.21m, so where does that put him in the sport's highest earners in the dugout?

It's impossible to know exactly, but a reasonable estimate would put him as the fifth highest earner currently among the world's managers.

Diego Simeone is commonly understood to be the highest earner on £30m at Atletico Madrid, with Pep Guardiola a distant second on £20m at Manchester City.

After that, Steven Gerrard is reported to be on £15.2m at Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

Mikel Arteta is in contract talks with Arsenal as he has a year left on his deal and Mail Sport has reported that the Gunners will look to bring him closer to Guardiola's £20m. His current salary is £9m.

Assuming that boost takes Arteta somewhere close to £20m, Mourinho would place fifth in the world on £10.21m.

Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Max Allegri at Juventus, Thomas Tuchel at bayern Munich, and Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea were all understood to be on more than that this past season.

However, they have all either left or been sacked by their clubs, freeing up space for Mourinho to surge into the top five.

On his unveiling at Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, Mourinho said: 'I want to thank you for your love.

'Normally a coach is loved after victories. In this case I feel that I am loved before the victories. That for me is a big responsibility that I feel.
