The 2024 Community Shield will kick off at 3pm on Saturday, August 10, as the countdown continues to the new campaign.

Manchester United are set to meet arch-rivals Manchester City in the traditional season curtain-raiser after Erik ten Hag's side beat City in the FA Cup final.

Meanwhile, City will take part after they won the Premier League for a fourth successive year last season.

The teams will do battle at Wembley a week before the top flight campaign begins in what will be the 102nd edition of the annual match, where the Premier League winners meet the team who triumphed in the FA Cup.

City have a bizarrely poor recent record in the Community Shield after losing the last three editions to Leicester, Liverpool and Arsenal respectively.

Last season they were defeated on penalties by Arsenal after a 1-1 draw, with the Gunners having pushed City close in the Premier League over the past two years.

However, they did beat Chelsea and Liverpool in 2018 and 2019 respectively, with Pep Guardiola's side six-time winners of the curtain-raiser.

Meanwhile, United are the most decorated team with 21 triumphs in the annual match, although it will be the first time they have competed since 2016, when they beat Leicester City.

This season's clash promises to be an intriguing match-up after United shocked their rivals to win the FA Cup final 2-1.

Despite their victory, it led to a month of uncertainty at Old Trafford, with significant speculation over the future of Ten Hag as manager.

However United's new part-owners Ineos, who are in charge of football operations at the club, ultimately decided to stick with the Dutchman after an end-of-season review, but they will want an improvement on a disappointing campaign.

The victory played a major part in Ten Hag keeping his job and he will hope to get his third full campaign off to the best possible start.
