Belgian striker Dries Mertens is a summer transfer target for Chelsea with the attacker out of contract with Napoli this summer, according to Sky Sports Italia.
Chelsea are trying to agree a new deal with Olivier Giroud, but may instead bring in Mertens if the Frenchman departs Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is keen to bolster his frontline with experienced options and Mertens, a 90-cap international, is thought to be his preferred option.
Napoli striker Dries Mertens is wanted by Premier League club Chelsea on a free transfer
Talks have reportedly already begun between the Premier League club and the 32-year-old's representatives about a switch to London.
Mertens joined Napoli from PSV in 2013 and across seven seasons at the club has 121 goals in just 319 games, lifting the Coppa Italia in 2014.
Should Mertens make the move, then Serie A rivals Inter Milan and Lazio are ready to pounce for Giroud.
Any move for Mertens could then see Olivier Giroud depart Stamford Bridge in the summer
