Paul Scholes has slammed Manchester United midfielder Fred for his role in Edin Dzeko's goal for Roma on Thursday night as the Red Devils legend said the Brazilian was 'left wanting again' at Old Trafford.
United suffered a first-half scare in their Europa League semi-final first leg against the Italians, with a Lorenzo Pelligrini penalty and a Dzeko tap-in putting the visitors ahead at the break after Bruno Fernandes scored the game's opening goal.
Dzeko bagged his sixth goal in five Old Trafford appearances, finishing off a fine attacking move for Paulo Fonseca's side in which Pelligrini laid the ball on a plate for the veteran to slot home.

However, Scholes pointed the finger at Fred in the aftermath, suggesting that the fault of Roma's second goal lay solely at the Brazilian's door for failing to do his job and stop the supply line of Henrikh Mkhitaryan who played in Pellegrini in the build up.
'That's what Fred is in the team for, he's in the team to stop this type of thing from their best midfield player,' Scholes said on BT Sport.
'He gets in behind him. Fred, please stop that, he contributes nothing going forward and his absolute job is to stop that kind of thing and he's left wanting again.'

Former Man City striker Dzeko gave Roma the lead after Pelligrini scored from the spot following a controversial handball given against Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman made a sliding challenge to stop a cross from entering the United box and the ball struck his wayward arm as he went to ground.
'First of all, it's a terrible throw-in from Wan-Bissaka, some full-backs don't look right throwing the ball and he doesn't. Roma are right onto it,' Scholes added of the incident.

'What is he supposed to do? He's sliding to block the ball, the only thing he's trying to do is get his arm out of the way and it hits him - there's absolutely nothing he can do about that.'
United rallied at half-time and blitzed their rivals in the second half, as Edinson Cavani, Fernandes, Pogba and Mason Greenwood added to the scoresheet to win the game 6-2 and give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side a huge lead heading into the second leg in Rome.
Solskjaer has failed to win in four semi-finals as United boss and has his best chance of breaking that hoodoo next week and book their place in Gdansk for the final on May 26.
