New York Mets legend Keith Hernandez reveals the 'very grotesque' supporters chant he isn't a fan of

Keith Hernandez - once a World Series champion with the Mets - has bemoaned the use of vulgarity in a chant that fans belted out against the Pirates, earlier this week.

At the top of the third inning of Monday's game, Hernandez - a former first baseman now working as a color commentator for SNY - stood for decency when discussing a different variation of the slogan 'Let's go Mets!' on air.

'As long as they, on the other, one, don't add on the F,' the 70-year-old said, referring to the cussword being placed at the start of the chant. 'I don't like the F.'

Hernandez then evoked negative experiences with fans asking for his autograph and wanting 'LFGM' instead of 'LGM' on their team apparel.

'I've had people ask me, something to sign, and ''Would you mind putting LF...?'' I say ''No, no. I don't do that,' said the five-time All-Star.

Keith Hernandez made his feelings known about 'LFGM' on a SNY cast of Mets-Pirates on Mon.

'Very, very grotesque.'

However, Hernandez might clash heads with current first baseman Pete Alonso over the issue, with the Mets star praising the 'LFGM' chant and its associated meaning in a July 2022 article.

'This is the New York Mets we're talking about, you know what I mean? Alonso wrote at the time.

'We represent the greatest city in the world. And whether you're a player or a fan, we all should be proud to be a part of this thing. We should say LFGM like we effing mean in. Like it matters.'

After a series split in Pittsburgh and a 4-4 road trip, the Mets returned home to beat the Washington Capitals on Monday.

The team then hosts the Colorado Rockies before the All-Star game on July 16.

The Mets (45-45) currently trail the Atlanta Braves by six games for a wild card spot in the NL East.
