Plans for an all-star team comprising the best players from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea are afoot, with Rugby Australia keen for the side to play the British and Irish Lions in 2025.
The Lions tour Australia every 12 years and will play a handful of warm up games before their three-Test series against the Wallabies. Thus far, it has been reported that they will play an Anzac XV featuring Australia and New Zealand stars, as well as the Waratahs, Reds and Brumbies.
And according to the Sydney Morning Herald, a proposal is being negotiated and an agreement needs to be reached within the next two months so Rugby Australia can begin selling tickets.
Indeed, Rugby Australia officials want to avoid blowout scores that fans have been accustomed to seeing in warm up matches and are of the view that all-star games involving Anzac and Pacific players could draw sizeable crowds.
New Zealand Rugby are open to sending players over for a warm up match but, as they are playing France in a three-Test series at the same time, will need to negotiate over player availability.
