Ryan Reynolds says friendship with Deadpool & Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman is like a 'marriage' as he 'roots' for him 'same way' he does for wife Blake Lively

Longtime friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have learned to 'rely on each other' while navigating the ups and downs of Hollywood.

The performers, who are in July's Deadpool & Wolverine, have been close friends for several years and are well-known for their long-running fake feud.

Now they have told People what makes them so close.

Reynolds, 47, compared their connection to a marriage: 'I think the secret sauce to a long-lasting Hollywood friendship is not too dissimilar to having a partner or a marriage.'

He then brought up his marriage to siren Blake Lively, with whom he shares four children.

Ryan added: 'I am genuinely rooting for you, all the time. I want you to win. It's the same way I feel about Blake. As I'm rooting for her, I know she's rooting for me, and it's why we're so connected.'

The Free Guy star went on to speak about how his first meeting with Jackman immediately eased his tensions about working with the high-profile actor on the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

He recalled: 'Just the fact that you knew my name meant so much to me. And you came over, you gave me a big hug and you said, "Welcome aboard."'

Jackman then opened up about how he considered Reynolds to be one of his closest friends and discussed how they had become completely trusting of one another over the years.

He stated: 'There's probably fewer friends in our life that you can say anything to, the stuff you're ashamed, embarrassed, anything.'

'You can tell me anything and I can tell you anything, and I don't feel like you're going to be judging or necessarily giving me the answer,' he added.

Reynolds and Jackman are set to reprise their roles as Wade Wilson and James 'Logan' Howlett, respectively, in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The feature is centered on the mercenary of the same name as he encounters the former X-Men member during a universe-altering mission.

In addition to the actors, the cast of the film includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Leslie Uggams.

Although Jackman planned to cease playing Wolverine after the release of 2019's Logan, he changed his mind during the upcoming movie's process of development.

Physical production on the film commenced in March of last year, although it was delayed by the onset of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.

The upcoming feature's cast and crew eventually reconvened and wrapped this past July.
