Taylor Momsen is bitten by a BAT and has to be treated for rabies while opening for AC/DC with her band The Pretty Reckless in Spain

Taylor Momsen was bitten by a bat while performing on stage with her band, The Pretty Reckless, in Spain on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Gossip Girl star's group was opening for AC/DC at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville when a bat landed on and bit her left thigh after she finished a song entitled Witches Burn.

However, the performer was initially unaware that she had been bit and briefly ignored the calls of audience members attempting to call attention to the animal before she noticed the bat on her leg.

Momsen, who shared a video of the incident on her Instagram and TikTok accounts,  was then assisted by a stagehand, who removed the animal from her thigh, after which she continued with her performance.

The How the Grinch Stole Christmas actress was later transported to a hospital, where she was treated for the bite.

The singer shared a message in the caption of all of her social media posts, where she let her fans know that she would be taking the incident in stride.

'So…ROCK AND ROLL MOMENT…in Sevilla Wednesday during Witches Burn of all songs… a BAT flew onto me and clung to my leg…in the moment I was performing and had no idea until the incredible crowd kept screaming and pointing.'

'He was cute, but yes he bit me…so rabies shots for the next two weeks. thanks to all the staff at the hospital who dubbed me #batgirl after seeing it on the local news that morning…more footage to come…that's one for the books!!!!'

According to the Center for Disease Control, rabies is typically spread from bites or scratches from various animals, including bats, skunks and dogs, among others.

Rabies can be fatal if not treated after exposure, and four to five doses of a vaccine, as well as a dose of human rabies immune globulin, must be given as soon as possible after a human comes into contact with the virus.

Contact with bats infected with the virus has become the most common cause of human rabies deaths in the United States.

Momsen has served as the frontwoman for The Pretty Reckless ever since the band's inception in 2009.

The group's debut record, entitled Light Me Up, was released in 2010 and peaked at number 10 on Billboard's US Top Alternative Albums chart.

The band's most recently-released album, Death by Rock and Roll, debuted in 2021.

Momsen and the rest of The Pretty Reckless, who have embarked on several headlining tours over their time as a band, began supporting AC/DC last month.

The group is scheduled to conclude their run with the Australian rock band with a performance at the Croke Park Stadium in Dublin on August 17.
