'The role terrified me': Taylor Lautner admits he was scared to join the cast of Adam Sandler's Netflix movie The Ridiculous 6

Taylor Lautner has revealed he almost didn't accept his role in the Adam Sandler Netflix movie The Ridiculous 6 because the script scared him.

'I read the script and it absolutely terrified me and the role terrified me,' he  said during an interview with Ryan Seacrest.

'My role is pretty out there- he's a total country bumpkin - so I said to myself, if I just go for this and don't hold back, what could go wrong?'

The movie that became available to stream on Netflix on December 11 is the first project the 23-year-old actor has done in a while.

Following the end of the Twilight films, he's appeared in short-lived British TV comedy Cuckoo, the 2014 independent film Run The Tide and Tracers released by Lionsgate in March.

Lautner became pals with Sandler when the former Twilight hunk made a cameo in the 2013 comedy Grown Ups 2.

The Ridiculous 6 is billed as a comedy western in which Sandler plays an outlaw raised by Native Americans.

When he discovers he has five half-brothers, he joins with them in a search for their deadbeat dad.

However, the movie became mired in controversy during filming when Native American actors walked off the set in protest at how their culture was being portrayed.

Additionally, the film has been blasted by reviewers.

Variety described it as 'a pitiful excuse for a comedy' while the LA Times said the jokes were 'juvenile and gross, unsophisticated and insensitive.'

Still, Lautner had nothing but good things to say about working with the Little Nicky star when he appeared on On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Monday.

'He's one of the best guys I know,' the actor said.

'It's awesome to say I've worked with him,' he added. 'It's even better to call him friend.'
